I had a Selectric with a paper tape punch/reader. It had the solenoids built in. I made an interface that converted ASCII to whatever that code was. I wish I had kept it for sentimental value. It was slow but cool.

I have an old line printer that has a spinning wheel that has the characters around the perifphery (SP?).

A soleniod whacks the paper from behind, pushing it into the whell, which is inked by another spongy roller that rides on the wheel.

The wheel goes across the platen on a thread screw rod.

Wieghs MUCH more than a boat anchor and I paid $200 for it back in late 70's.
