Houston area flooding (Houston FReepers, please post updates here)

Looks like Houston is a mess and things could get a whole lot worse.

How is your part of town looking? Roads? Flooding?

We're in Pearland near where 1128 and 518 (Broadway) intersect. Our yard has a small amount of standing water but all looks well for now.

I am on the NE side of lake Conroe off of 1097. We need rain badly here to re-fill the lake after Hurricane Rita damaged the damn here. The lake is down about 3.5 feet from normal.

Today isn't so bad, but Saturday was something awful. I for some reason decided to go to a bar to watch the Rice game/World Cup and very nearly was swept away by the ephemeral river that was and is San Jacinto.

I guess after seeing the pictures I must now concede that is is bad today. About half the class was missing from my BarBri review, so I guess they knew more about the situation than I did (the usual state of affairs, except normally it's with the law and not the weather).

Interesting. I have a truck just like that. Didn't know I could drive thru 4 ft of water with no problem.

What does Conroe look like? Conroe is looking good. Had a little rain around 2 a.m. Partly cloudy at present. We got lucky this time in Conroe.

If the engine stalls/dies then it would. But the exhaust gases should keep it out

There is a surface reflection of a weak low pressure right on the TX coastline. If it managed to meander out into the GOM, it might be able to transform into something tropical... I don't believe that is expected to occur though. It was mentioned in this morning's tropical discussion:

Gulf of Mexico... mid/upper level trough remains over the central US into Texas and the NW Gulf N of 22n W of 93w. A weak 1014 mb low is inland over E Texas near 30n95w generating strong thunderstorms inland and within 90 nm along the coast of W Louisiana and Texas from 92w-96w.

Ok, I just had an abortive attempt to get out of my neighborhood. I'm at I-45 and West Mount Houston and that intersection is under water. They bayou is at capacity, and the side ditches are running over.

I-45 has a crawl of people, and running slow in both directions.

I decided I really didn't need Sonic and came back home for lunch.

This system is almost a complete circle now, so y'all up north of Houston might get a little bit of rain tonight. It looks like a little mini-hurricane now, except there is no wind.

What is a system like this called, besides a "low"? Anyone know?

To tell you honestly, I don't know. I think it's just called a low, they haven't labeled it a tropical anything yet.

Well, I hope we get some of this rain. We really haven't seen any of it yet. So far it's just been in pictures.
