Vs. the useful idiots who don't take these issues seriously and think everything is just peachy regardless of the problems surrounding the twin deficits, illegal immigration and the drain on our country's finances, etc?

Do you think that this represents the views of most Freepers?

I'm not quite sure what you are asking. If you are asking if most FReepers would want the U.S. to waive its sovereign rights to some 'international' legislative or judicial group, the answer would be no.

From the paper you linked to:

Migratory Species and Biodiversity. We have signed a Declaration of Intent for the Conservation of North American Birds and Their Habitat, a nonbinding trilateral agreement to cooperate in conserving the continent’s bird species and the landscapes upon which they depend for survival.

That's just great. Transnational environMENTALism.

When I see the term "working group" the first thing that comes to mind is 'termites'....... and I'll bet there's a lot of similarities between the two.

Brainwashing, huh? Does that include ridiculing those who have the mental (in)capacity to suggest that foreign carriers flying into U.S. airports are "immune" from our security regulations?

There is no rhetorical or debating rule concerning responses to arguments with no merit. In other words, nothing requires that absurdities be treated as "valid" arguments.

Furthermore, while we are on the subject of debating technique . . . one should not expect to be taken seriously in a universal sense if one presumes to make absurd, throw-away comments such as the one above. In summation, if one expects to be treated with respect, then one should make comments worthy of respect.

"If you are asking if most FReepers would want the U.S. to waive its sovereign rights to some 'international' legislative or judicial group, the answer would be no."

My point exactly.

Our politicians are taking strategic policy input from these think-tanks who see the electorate as more of an "obstacle" than an essential part of the US political system of this country. Most of these think-tanks (like "The Carnegie Insititute for Peace" who run the Foreign Affairs Magazine organization) are simply a cover for global big-business interests. They don't give a damn about the US, except how US policy can be "bent" to support their financial interests.

http://www.foreignaffairs.org/20051101fabook84613/michael-ignatieff/american-exceptionalism-and-human-rights.html

"Andrew Moravcsik argues that American federalism and the ratification process in the Senate undercut the ability of the central government to comply with international standards".

Yeah, so what? That's what most FReepers would think, but not Carnegie & Foreign Affairs. They actually do papers on how the American system of government gets in the way of "meeting international standards"!

These are the think-tank policy orgs that our government's political strategists are listening to, not us. We are just "means for them to get elected" and we can be easily manipulated by hype every four years.

Carnegie's last great production was "Self-Determination in the New World Order". It took me years before I ever even knew where that "New World Order" moniker came from.

My point is this -- we, the electorate and citizens of this country, are so far out of the loop in how and why strategic policy decisions are made that we are often chasing our tails for years just trying to find out the basis for those decisions, let alone decide whether or not we support them and why. And by the time we understand it, it's too late to do anything about it -- that bus has already left the station. We need to keep our ear to the ground as to what these think-tanks are saying, and check to see if it is conforming to their strategy, then we will know what we are really arguing about!

I saw a black (I'm not kidding) UH-60 fly over Algonquin, Illinois at approx. 1700 local yesterday. I'm not sure whether it has anything to do with the NAU, but who really knows?

If you bother to read the comment to which I was replying, you'll see that I was merely ridiculing that which deserves ridicule. I never suggested that the black SH-60 I saw was a central part of my argument unlike, say, arguing that the WTO forced Massachusetts to do business with Burma, or that CAFTA was going to prevent the sale of over-the-counter vitamin supplements in the U.S., or that the Spaniards could refuse U.S. military access to I-80 in case of a national emergency. [hint]

Like the issue of the Codex something or other banning our vitamins. Hedgetrimmer seems to think that's going to happen. Do you agree? Have you stocked up on 10 years of vitamins......just in case?

and think everything is just peachy regardless of the problems surrounding the twin deficits

What problems surround the twin deficits?

"but of course. It fits his worldview. Nevermind the fact that most if not ALL of this is conjecture based on a simple trade agreement."

Mike, have you ever heard of sustainable development and agenda 21?
These are UN programs that are already being implemented in several areas around the country. Have you ever heard of UNESCO? Maybe you should read up on them and see why so many of their policies have been implemented in our public schools. They are teaching children from elementary school the great benefits of being a world citizen and that national sovereignty is an old outdated anachronism.
Or, maybe it's just more fun to try and ridicule those that are aware of some of these things that are moving us steadily into world socialism. Haven't you ever wondered why we are becoming more socialistic every day when we have Republican majorities in two branches of our government?

Here's a multi-tasking assignment for you (my mommie will be proud that I came up with it all by myself): organize yourself and maybe a group of like-minded citizen/taxpayers and lobby your local school board to change the curriculum. If they do not, challenge them at the next school board election. Your State government stands in the way? Petition it for redress, or work/lobby to get what you desire.

Sitting behind a keyboard and whimpering that the "evil UN weenies will stop at nothing until the school cafeteria serves nothing but ethnic food" is what's truly childish.
