THE ratings-starved Maury Povich and Connie Chung weekend show on MSNBC ended its short, six-month run with a bizarre send-off - sure to live on as a tone-deaf stunt Chung will not soon be allowed to forget.
Perched on the edge of a white grand piano and decked out in a full-length evening gown, the former CBS and CNN anchorwoman warbled a farewell song that put down Dan Rather (with whom she co-anchored the CBS news in the early 1990s), her husband and cable TV - all at the same time.
"Thanks for the memories," she sang to the tune of the old standard:
We came to do a show for very little dough
By little, I mean I could make more working on skid row

I wonder what combination of substances she was under the influence of. Too bad somebody couldn't slip some of the same thing to Babs Streisand at the beginning of her latest "Retirement Tour".
Connie and Maury are candidates for his "show".
She sang "Thanks for the Memories"? How ironic. I have no memory of the last time I saw her on TV, muchless the last time that I actually watched her when she was on.

It may be my pertinacious perception but finally a newsreader did something that had more meaning to the viewing audience than just running down white men, conservatives, Christianity, marriage, military, the President or our country.

in her 1995 interview with Kathleen Gingrich -- mother of then House Speaker Newt Gingrich -- she committed a "breach of trust" [by airing a statement by Mrs Gingrich which she made clear(to Mrs. Gingrich) was off the record]. As a result, she was forced to leave her post at CBS.
Chang's future career went down the pipes for that antic and she hasn't recovered since.
Maybe she thought no one would see it because the show's ratings were so bad.
