The organizer of the annual Twin Cities Pride Celebration has sued the Star Tribune, accusing the newspaper of discrimination and breach of contract for refusing to publish ads for the festival.
The advertisements showed two men kissing. The lawsuit, filed Friday in Hennepin County District Court, said the newspaper applied different standards to GLBT/Pride Twin Cities because the newspaper had published ads depicting a heterosexual couple kissing.
The lawsuit also contends the newspaper breached its advertising contract, and retaliated by failing to publish any of its advertisements, including one that did not contain an image of same-sex kissing.
The lawsuit said the Star Tribune cited a policy on community standards as its reason for refusing to publish the ads.
A complaint the group filed with the Minneapolis Department of Civil Rights was dismissed on the grounds that the commission did not have jurisdiction.
"After an extensive investigation by the Minneapolis Commission on Civil Rights, we prevailed and we expect to prevail in Hennepin County District Court. Our position remains the same," said Ben Taylor, senior vice president of marketing and communications for the Star Tribune.
Jim Kelley, president of GLBT/Pride Twin Cities, said: "We hope to address this with the Star Tribune and reach a resolution."
The RedStar must believe that this move will cause conservatives to start buying their fishwrap again.
On the contrary, it will cause their circulation numbers to continue the death spiral.
Another accept homosexual activity is normal or we will sue lawsuit...
Boy, the Star-Tribune must be desparate to keep Average Joe/Josephine subscriptions.
When my brother was in St. Paul doing his masters degree, he was always
talking about the Star-Tribune being a really gay paper.
I cringe when I see two men or women kissing. Does that make me a homophobe ?
The poor nitwits at the Red Star. Imagine their dilema: No fruit with their whine and cheese.
Homosexuals need to accept the fact that two homosexuals kissing in public is the same as a human having sex with an animal in public.
HOmosexuality is a devian sexual fetish. period. get over it homosexuals.
yes it does. according to the homoadvocates, those not arroused by the deviant recreational sex fetish are universally "phobes".
I knew the answer to my question would be yes to a lot of people but the reality is I'm very live and let live in my ideology. I'm not against homosexuals, I'm against the homo agenda of tricking young kids into thinking that the lifestyle is harmless when I know it is not.
After all, in submitting the ad, the buttboys aren't exercising a right to free speech. They're requesting that the newspaper accept their custom. This is a public accommodation case more than a free speech issue.
Unfortunately, the courts have expanded public accommodation law to force tolerance of many things that would not have been considered a few decades ago. I don't know which way this will fall.
I agree. I think the homos stole the Rainbow because it is colorful and it will attract young kids. The homos are perverts.
CHRISTIANS SHOULD TAKE BACK THE RAINBOW.
You're a `homophobe' only if you care what these people think.
But consider the twisted term itself, which seems to signify: "fear of `homos'".
Greek homos means 'the same'
and of course, phobos means `fear'
Therefore, if the word is correctly parsed, `homophobia' is an irrational fear of those who are exactly the same as oneself.
Me, I'm not afraid of other fellow conservative heterosexual gun owners.
I imagine the same plaintiffs would have no objection to the newspaper denying an ad to the "nazi party family picnic."
Hmm, who to root for?
The very Liberal Newspaper or the queers?
Excuse me but, whenever conservatives have their ads refused, the Left routinely lectures us about "freedom of the press" and how the publisher has the right to publish what he wants and exclude what he wants as long as what's printed isn't slanderous or libelous.
So when LIBERALS get turned down, do they listen to the lecture they have at the ready for the rest of us??? Why, no! They SUE as if the newspaper is a government entity that must be *forced* to publish what liberals want.
Raving hypocrites!
I don't know, but that stuff gives me the creeps, too. In fact, I would imagine that that stuff gives all normal human beings the creeps, instinctively.
If the Red Star is REALLY interested in community standards, they ought to start with their editorial page!
Man, teacups are getting so big these days!
