Commenting on Karl Rove's remarks in a speech in New Hampshire where he charged that Democrats are "wrong, profoundly wrong" in wanting to cut and run in Iraq, an increasingly rabid anti-war Congressman John Murtha resorted to a personal attack on Rove on Sunday.
"He's in New Hampshire, he's making a political speech. He's sitting in his air-conditioned office on his big fat backside saying, 'Stay the course,'" said Murtha, D-Pa., in an appearance on NBC's "Meet the Press."
Obviously rattled by criticism from Rove, Murtha said: "I disagree completely with what he's saying. We need to change direction. We can't win a war like this. This guy's sitting back ... getting paid by the public taxpayer and he's saying to us that we're winning this war ... we've got to change direction. You can't sit there in the air-conditioned office and tell the troops fighting in Iraq that we have to stay the course.
Despite recent gains in Iraq, Murtha insisted the U.S. is losing the war in Iraq. When told by "Meet the Press" host Tim Russert that Rove had told the New Hampshire audience that "if Murtha had his way, American troops would have been gone by the end of April" and American forces wouldn't have killed Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, Murtha downplayed the importance of killing the top terrorist in Iraq, saying dismissively: "They built Zarqawi up, they have a thousand foreign fighters" -- that the intelligence "came from the outside" and that all the U.S. did was bomb his hideout and kill him.
Turning to his own plan for cutting and running, Murtha became increasing irrational, suggesting that U.S. troops there be redeployed outside of Iraq yet close enough to be ready to go back in if the situation required it. When pressed by Russert to say where the troops could be deployed if neighboring countries refuse to accept their presence, as Rove had has said, he suggested they could be set to Okinawa, Japan, which is 5,000 miles from Baghdad.
"We don't have to be right there, Murtha said. "We can go to Okinawa. We could redeploy there instantly."
Now, I'm the first to admit I know absolutely nothing about military strategy, but it seems to me that "redeploying instantly" from 5,000 miles away isn't gonna happen. And, further, if a situation develops which needs our troops on the ground, isn't it better if they're RIGHT THERE and not travelling from Okinawa while that situation just gets worse and worse?
Murtha is turning into a real asset for the Republican Party.
Murtha is turning into a real asset for the Republican Party.
Murtha is a perfect example to the cliche: Sit there and keep your mouth shut and everyone will think you are stupid. Open your mouth and everyone will know it. What a pathetic speciman for a U. S. Congressman.
And he hated Hillary, saw right through her.
The upstanding patriots (the very few) in congress need to stand this coward down in public. I'd love to see a 6'4, 240lbs DI from Paris Island give ol murtha a tounge lashing on the steps of the capital.
What a COWARD!
jack murtha is a total pig....what an a55hole!!!!
Not only has Okinawa been problematic in terms of Japanese civilian/U.S. military relations in recent years, but DoD has also decided to significantly reduce the American presence there by sending several thousand Okinawa-based Marines to Guam to reduce tensions with Japan. Does Murtha really think that the Japanese and Okinawans would agree to a massive "redeployment" of 130,000 American troops to their territory after bitterly complaining for many years about the few thousand that were already there? Moreover, where would he have DoD put all of those "redeployed" troops on that relatively modest-sized island?
I really do wish that someone in the MSM would point this state of affairs out to that imbecile the next time he brings up his ignorant "redeployment" scheme.

Murtha's "fat backside" comment sounds like desperation to me.
Wouldn't it be funny if Murtha slipped down some stairs, hit the back of his head and slipped into a coma...That'd be hilarious...What'd be even funnier is if he came to and was BLIND...That would be riotous...Why, because it would be ironic...he refuses to see the truth anyway, so who really cares if he can see..
What an ignorant MOFO..Irey is gonna kick his slimy fat ass...
Murtha is living on the edge of insanity....him talking about somebody being big.......HELLO~~~~~~~~
You Murtha...........who is paying you?????????? Besides the public taxpayers, that is?????
After reading what Murtha said on Meet the Press, I think we are winning the war against the war on terrorism. When the enemy is destroying himself its best to leave him alone. Redeploying the troops to Okinawa is the most lame thing I've ever heard of. I bet my 12 year old nephew could beat Murtha at a strategic game of checkers.
I've told this story on some other posts but I'll tell it again....was sitting in the IP Casino in Biloxi last Sunday and three young guys came into the bar and sat down (ok, I'm a dirty old lady and I enjoyed it)....turns out they were with the Penn National Guard just returning from Iraq and debriefing at Camp Shelby. The friend I was with asked what they thought of the MSM and the Dims....all three went nuts...then I said, "Well the asshole I can't stand is that traitor Jack Murtha - he's a pig" - so the one guy says, "he's my uncle" I said BS - He showed me his driver's licents (Penn by the way) and his last name is Murtha....the other two guys back him up! I said Oops, but I'm not apologizing...he said, "that ok, he's a pig and I can't stand him"....interesting evening!
Is that all we did? Right Murtha Effa, Lets try that from Okinowa...Dim Wad
I don't know about Murtha but his nephew did tell me he's the biggest crook on the planet. As a side note, during Pres Reagan's second swearing in, I was at a party on the hill and along comes Sen Howell Heflin. A friend tried to introduce me to him and he was so s&*tf89ced he didn't even realize that he was being introduced to anyone....oh well, he's gone and now we have Jeff Sessions....and am I proud of him or what!
Not only is he a jerk, he is a FAT jerk.
