Ads Expose Chris Cannon's Support for Illegal Alien Amnesties

Campaign Highlights Inconsistencies Between Record and Rhetoric

WASHINGTON, June 14 /U.S. Newswire/ -- Team America PAC has launched a radio campaign in Salt Lake City, Utah. The purpose of the campaign is to make Republican Primary voters aware of Representative Chris Cannon's support for illegal alien amnesties and other benefits for illegal aliens even though he represents his record as having been tough on illegal immigration.

On his website, Congressman Cannon claims he's never supported amnesty for illegal aliens and never will. In fact, Cannon has not only supported nine amnesties for illegal aliens, he's actually co-sponsored six amnesties himself. Cannon claims to be tough on illegal immigration yet he's co-sponsored two bills that would reward illegal aliens with in-state tuition. He's voted multiple times against aiding police officers in the apprehension of illegal aliens. Cannon is currently co-sponsoring a bill that protects illegal aliens from prosecution for social security fraud.

Team America' Chairman, Bay Buchanan commented, "Chris Cannon is one of the most pro amnesty congressman in Washington. It is certainly understandable why he would choose to hide his atrocious record on amnesty from his constituents but that in no way justifies the hypocrisy associated with doing so. Utah voters have a right to know if their congressman is deliberately deceiving them, especially on an issue as critical to the nation as illegal immigration."

Team America PAC launched the ad campaign earlier this week in the Salt Lake City market. The radio spots use humor to expose Cannon's claim of being tough on immigration. Throughout the spot the announcer repeatedly asks, "Chris Cannon tough on immigration?" followed by the announcer's description of Chris Cannon's support for an immigration bill that's completely out of synch with most American's views. Over the top crowd laughter then ensues. The radio spot concludes by asking GOP Primary voters to support Cannon's Primary opponent John Jacob "to begin cleaning up the immigration mess Chris Cannon helped make."

Cannon supports almost none of its provisions.

The voting record shows that Cannon supports HR4437.

I just Watched him on TV saying just that. I don't need to convince you. If you think that one vote cancels out all the other votes.

From Welcome to Wary in Utah
The raging immigration debate has drowned out nuanced positions even in this conservative state, which had made room for illegal newcomers.
By Nicholas Riccardi, Times Staff Writer
April 30, 2006

PROVO, Utah — Four years ago, U.S. Rep. Chris Cannon told the audience at a Mexican-American Legal Defense and Educational Fund dinner: "We love immigrants in Utah. We don't make distinctions between legal and illegal."

Two weeks ago, the Utah Republican sent a video to party activists saying that he was tough on illegal immigration and that the nation had to secure its borders.

What a difference a few years make in the contentious world of immigration politics.

A prominent champion of immigrant rights in Washington, Cannon says he hasn't changed his position. Instead, he has repackaged it in reaction to a nationwide backlash against illegal immigration.

So was that former Representative for SC, now Senator, who has his nose up McCain's skirt, Lindsey Graham.

I think that they get used to being invited to the A List parties and don't want to PO the big boys who host them. When that happens, it's time for them to go no matter how good they *used* to be.

Did you ever stop to think that if Cannon has supported all those amnesties that he is really not a good conservative and likewise, is Sensenbrenner all that good if he is supporting the guy who supported the an=mnesty?

No, I'm sure you didn't.

Lou Dobbs is a life-long republican.

Lou Dobbs has been working for the Commie News Network since its inception. That's many years.

Only now does Lou get the Green light to broadcast about illegal immigration. All the many other years he keeps his mouth shut like a good CNN quisling.

Where was Dobbs during the eight years of Clinton?

The irony of this thread that Lou Dobbs is allowed to come on late to the right position, but when Chris Cannon does it, it's lets post his previous history.

"Okay, I want proof. Chris Cannon has a lifetime 97 score by the American Conservative Union and posted a 100 last year and the year before that."

Those ratings are compiled based on specific votes. You have to look closer to see if the ACU even covered those votes and issues in question, especially since only some of this is getting House floor action.

Look closer at what Cannon has sponsored and supported:

1) "Chris Cannon is the author of the Student Adjustment Act, which would not only give illegals amnesty, it would also make them eligible for in-state college tuition and it would let them pay that discounted tuition with federal grants."
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1634182/posts

2) "Cannon’s bill, the Agricultural Jobs, Opportunity, Benefits, and Security Act of 2003 (AgJOBS,” H.R. 3142 (search), would make all foreign nationals who were illegally in the United States between February 2002 and January 2003 (which Cannon estimates is 11 million people), and who had also worked for 100 days in agriculture, immune from prosecution for the crime of entering the U.S. without a current visa, and then give them work permits. "

I will be interested to see if the ACU put the CIRA Senate votes on their roster this year. The fact is that in recent years, there hasnt been many votes on this - there has been too little consensus to move things. But now, with the President pumping for 'comprehensive' immigration reform, there is action - and it is vital to send a message to DC to make sure the action doesnt take us down the wrong path.

Cannon falls in with McCain, Feinstein, Kennedy and liberals in supporting the "AgJobs" bill. The Senate CIRA is a monstrosity that 'compromised' between two bad amnesties - AgJobs and McCain-kennedy *and gave us both*. If Cannon is around to vote for this on the House floor - IT WILL BE TOO LATE, WE WILL HAVE LOST.

"I don't like seeing this guy being drug through the mud like a RINO." ...

If I was in that district, I'd vote for Jacobs. It's the conservative vote.

I heard the segment while channel surfing and catchin it on E!'s show "Talk Soup".

The Wash Compost reported Cher's calling into C-Span, but left out the part of her saying that lou dobbs was one of her best friends. MM see reply #111.

While you were sleeping in Memorial Day weekend, Cher was fighting for American troops on C-SPAN. The legendary singer called into "Washington Journal" early Sunday morning -- 4:20 a.m. her time, to be exact. "Hello? This is Malibu, California. I'm going to try to be really calm while I'm talking about this . . ." and she launched into a passionate argument for helmet safety upgrades for troops and her frustration with the government for not providing them to every soldier. Host Steve Scully recognized her famously husky voice

Chris Cannon's press release on HR-4437 sure makes it sound like he wants a guest worker amnesty like what the U.S. senate passed.

“There is no doubt that our current immigration system is broken and it must be fixed. This bill addresses some of the major concerns facing our country, though comprehensive reform remains necessary,” Cannon said today.
