Drudge has said he uses ISDN to do his Sunday night show. They're dual channel also. It works pretty well from what others have said.

2B+D. 64 kbits/sec, full duplex, two channels. Perfect for voice broadcast work. Standard voice over the phone is a 2.4 KHz channel. You can expand that to 8 KHz with ISDN. The comrex is probably a compandored approach to squeeze a better quality audio for broadcast through the standard u-Law/a-Law PCM commonly used for voice traffic.
