Of course China, Russia and Canada would have first shot at it.

How do we know it's test though? If someone points a gun at me, I'm going to assume it's loaded.

I guess they don't know that freepers don't sleep:')

So VERY true! I'll never forget when the tsunami hit Indonesia several years ago. I was up late that night and surfing FR. Slowly, slowly reports started coming in from FReepers around the world. I had a radio and a TV on in my office, but it was FR that had the most and updated information. I stayed up all that night and into the next morning reading posts on FR.

"KPA Air Force Command Warns against U.S. Ceaseless Military Provocations
Pyongyang, June 16 (KCNA) -- The Air Force Command of the Korean People's Army
released today the following report on the ceaseless military provocation perpetrated
by the U.S. imperialist warmongers: The U.S. imperialist warmongers committed one
more military provocation by infiltrating a strategic reconnaissance plane into the sky
above the DPRK's economic waters on June 16.
At around 8:00 Friday an "RC-135" of the U.S. imperialist aggression forces
illegally intruded into the sky above the waters of the DPRK east of Chongjin,
Hwadae and Riwon and spied on its strategic targets for hours, being refueled in the midair.
The ceaseless illegal intrusions of their strategic reconnaissance planes on spy missions
have created an imminent danger of military clash in the sky above those waters.
The KPA Air Force warns them once again that should those planes persist in their reckless
air espionage despite its repeated warnings, they will not be able to escape the same end as that
of a tiger moth fated to perish in the flames and the responsibility for that will wholly rest
with the U.S. imperialist warmongers."

Don't they ever have anything nice to say about us?

North Korea's Korean Central New Agency carried a report Friday saying the North's Air Force Command denounced "the ceaseless military provocation perpetrated by the U.S. imperialist warmongers" in making spy plane flights over North Korean waters.

"At around 8:00 Friday, an RC-135 of the U.S. imperialist aggression forces illegally intruded into the sky above the waters of the DPRK east of Chongjin, Hwadae and Riwon and spied on its strategic targets for hours, being refuelled in the midair," the report said.

It warned: "The ceaseless illegal intrusions of their strategic reconnaissance planes on spy missions have created an imminent danger of military clash in the sky above those waters."

TigerLikesRooster would be the one to ask. I did look at the Korea Herald as it is the paper I read on KAL and the article there added little to the discussion (part of the article follows):

Seoul officials widely believe the North's move is another saber-rattling campaign to raise its stake in the stalled six-party talks.

The reclusive country fired its long-range missile Taepodong-1 over Japan, which fell into the Pacific Ocean, in August 1998.

Reuters cited U.S. officials as saying that the move seems to be for a real missile test rather than just an attempt to regain U.S. and international attention.

"The North Koreans have been working on it for a while without much of a let up ... We think they are speeding up," a U.S. official was quoted as saying.

U.S. satellites reportedly spotted a missile on a flatbed truck and sighted many people possibly assembling missile components at the Musudan-ri launch facility in the northeastern town.

There have been signs since early May that North Korea was preparing to test a multiple-stage Taepodong-2 missile.

South Korea, Japan and the United States issued strong warnings.

Japan's Chief Cabinet Secretary Shinzo Abe said yesterday the North's missile test would threaten Japan's security and violate a moratorium agreement with Tokyo.

The South Korean government relayed its concern Thursday to the visiting North Korean delegation in the southwestern city of Gwangju. The delegation was attending a joint inter-Korean celebration marking the sixth anniversary of the summit between the two sides in 2000.

Lt. Gen. David P. Valcourt, the commander of the Eighth U.S. Army, warned yesterday a missile test by the North would make regional and global impacts beyond the Korean Peninsula.

On Wednesday, U.S. national security adviser Stephen Hadley warned it would be a "bad idea" if Pyongyang tested. In case of a missile launch, Washington is considering referring North Korea to the U.N. Security Council. Seoul is reluctant to agree to this referral despite its principle to cooperate with the United States on the issue.

Google Earth shows much of N Korea seemingly as an armed camp. More military than anything else from the overhead shots.

They don't have anything that will reach any further than the west coast, if that. The articles I've read have referred to Alaska, when talking about a missile aimed toward the US.

It would be fun if this momentous event was an announcement by NK state media that Kim is dead.

Well, as for this West Coaster, I'm gonna have another rum and coke, then keep a close eye on the news. If they launch towards CA, I'll worry. Aside from that, I'm crossing my fingers that we, or Japan blow this P.O.S missle out of the air just for the sake of entertainment.

On second thought, screw all that! Bush should call a press conference and let NK know that if a single scrap of that missle comes within comes within 12 miles of a populated allied country or the United States or any of its' vessels out in the open ocean, we will launch a full scale tactical nuclear strike on North Korea before the first piece of it hits the ground.

I bet you Ol' Kim Jung Il would be getting a call from Bejing within ten seconds of the speach.

"They may just be playing with us."

I just read where the Japanese say they have sent two warships out here off the coast and say they will shoot it down if launched. That ought to 'warm' things up a bit, huh?

I believe NK would launch over the Pacific to hit the US; not over the Atlantic. That's why Japan is pretty concerned.

The launch -- expected to involve a Taepodong-2 missile with an estimated range of 3,500 to 4,300 km (2,175 to 2,670 miles) -- could come as early as this weekend, U.S. officials said. Other experts have said the missile can travel as far as 6,000 km.

That is not 9,000 miles
