The launch -- expected to involve a Taepodong-2 missile with an estimated range of 3,500 to 4,300 km (2,175 to 2,670 miles) -- could come as early as this weekend, U.S. officials said. Other experts have said the missile can travel as far as 6,000 km.

That is not 9,000 miles
Then again??
The multi-stage intercontinental ballistic missile with a range of 15,000 km is capable of reaching the United States. We hate to guess what sort of dreadful result would be brought about if the missile is actually test-fired. It was right for the Korea and U.S. government to express concern, urging the North to stop the preparation immediately.
15,000 km
