I hate to sound pessimistic but if you think there is any chance that these men will be released alive, then you are greatly under estimating the pure evil we are fighting.

Well, there's released, and there's rescued. The terrorists may not let them go willingly, but they're dead men for even trying this. Now that Zarqawi is gone, and he has no clear successor, there will be no higher priority for the U.S. military then to recover these two soldiers.

My point is that terrorist groups are always looking for soft spots to attack.

As for politics, Senator Ted Kennedy during the attack on the 101st Airborne on Hamburger Hill (circa 1968) said that the 101st Airborne would never succeed in taking that military position in South Vietnam.

He is still a US Senator and a very powerful member of the Democratic party.

This does bother me that such people are still in political office, and are quite powerful influences in Washington...

MSM relying on wimps to make the success of Iraq into a failure.

In WWII, 14,072 Americans DIED while being held as a POW.

Pray for these guys.

Moreover, don't be the wimp the MSM wants you to be.

I don't equate cooperation with trust.

I expect to see them all cooperate eventually. At least to the point of our departure. Does that mean I trust them to continue to develope a democratic system where all citezens are equal under the rule of law? NEVER!

In other words never turn your bACK ON AN Arab Muslim.

Well that doesn't look too good. Our SOP was not to patrol with less than three vehicles. The only group that did not have to follow this was "Diehard 6" and his crew who went out to train the Iraqi Police, and they were very careful about where they went and how they set up.

It's hard for me to imagine that anyone in a leadership position thought it was a good idea to have three troops by themselves, even with IA or IP support.

You are totally assuming that there were Iraqi soldiers (military or police.)

And that the Iraqi soldiers either did nothing or were in cahoots with the terrorists.

The problem with your theory, beyond the obvious assumptions, is that any present Iraqi soldiers would have to be wondering if they would be killed/kidnapped next.

If the terrorists were in cahoots with the Iraqi soldiers they would be concerned about being double crossed and thus easily killed.

I suspect that they found a soft target, three soldiers who after a long day had let their guard down.

Good morning.

At some point in the night I heard comment that units nearby heard an explosion and gun fire. The report said that a reaction force was on scene quickly but the two were missing.

Like others here, I can't imagine any of our people surrendering if they were able to resist so I'm guessing a frag was tossed at them, with the KIA shot while try to respond.

There isn't enough news to do any more than guess. All we can do is hope for the best.

You make my point. We should never be soft targets!

Umm go back and read what you wrote at #33. That was never your point.

You like to assume to much and when you assume it makes an ASS out of U and ME.

I hope you're wrong. Dennis Prager (sp/) had a an intelligence expert on last week who basically said that the death of Zarquawi meant the Sunnis are playing ball. Evidence of that is that after we got Zarq a Sunni was appointed to high level post (Defense Minister). That said, all the tribes who are supporting the insurgency will stop cooperating with these al queda types on the orders of their leaders. Right now it is not in the Sunni's best interest for us to cut and run as the Shi'as will stomp them, so if they start parading US soldiers in front of the cameras and freaking people out there will be more calls to get out. So in a nutshell if al queda types have US soldiers, politically, it would be in the best interest of Sunni population to give them up--and they have to be hiding in safe houses within that population.

If we have only 2 or 3 soldiers at a check point they are usually with several Iraqi military or police. Has been standard proceedure.

If that was the case the Iraquis turned on our men. Plausable assumtion.

At this point you are assuming something different so we're co-asses.

Doesn't negate the point that overtrust makes us soft targets
