I hope this doesn't point to a change in tactics where al Qaida is trying for prisoners.

Looks like a checkpoint was targeted.
Someone on the other thread said that it was not unusual for small groups of soldiers (2 or 3 people) to be out on patrols or at checkpoints.
No real new developments in their whereabouts. That's disappointing.

3 people at a checkpoint doesn't sound like enough to me.

If this is a new tactic by the other side, it's disturbing. I sincerely hope we will not see these soldiers paraded on TV like Nick Berg, Eugene Armstrong, and others.

It sure looks that way. The civilian abductions were reason enough to take the gloves off. If they are trying to 'out-Zarqawi' themselves, we need to level the joint and discuss a 21st century Marshall Plan for that area.
