Democrats call for 'new direction'
Jun. 16, 2006 at 3:57PM
Democratic Party leaders in the U.S. Congress Friday announced a "new direction," with a plan that seeks affordable healthcare and fiscal responsibility. Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., and House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., issued a release claiming the "failed Bush Republican leadership has taken America in the wrong direction."
"Our new direction will advance a common agenda, seek common ground, and apply common sense in the service of the common good," said Pelosi. "We know that with a new direction, we can meet our national challenges in a way that makes our nation stronger, our economy more vibrant and our families more secure."
Among the points in the plan, Democrats said they would change the prescription drug program and invest in stem-cell research; lower gas prices through elimination of subsidies for oil companies and "restore the budget discipline of the 1990s that helped eliminate deficits and spur record economic growth."

The only direction I've ever seen Democrats give is down down into the ground.
Actually, the Scarecrow said she was looking for "a nude erection". Apparently she's a bit "ronery".
Why don't they just use the slogan used by many of their supporters - "Death to America".
You know what they say--
three lefts equals a right! :-)
"New Direction"--that new code phrase indicates to me they were going in the wrong direction all along! Yeah, that'll pick up new voters real quick!
I thought they only released information on Friday afternoons so no one would notice.
Democrats call for 'new direction'... About face!
Ronald Reagan, 1964, "A Time for Choosing":
"You and I are told we must choose between a left or right, but I suggest there is no such thing as a left or right. There is only an up or down. Up to man's age-old dream-the maximum of individual freedom consistent with order or down to the ant heap of totalitarianism. Regardless of their sincerity, their humanitarian motives, those who would sacrifice freedom for security have embarked on this downward path. Plutarch warned, "The real destroyer of the liberties of the people is he who spreads among them bounties, donations and benefits."
The Founding Fathers knew a government can't control the economy without controlling people. And they knew when a government sets out to do that, it must use force and coercion to achieve its purpose. So we have come to a time for choosing.

run away!
"lower gas prices through elimination of subsidies for oil companies"
Yep, that's sure to work!! Why didn't I think of that??
Worked so well everywhere it's been tried.
Yep. That'll work...
How can these sandmaggot wannabes talk about socialized medicine and "fiscal responsibility" in the same discussion?
What's that? Americans are idiots?
That one cracked me up too...
Think of how cheap food would be if we got rid of the subsidies to farmers...
Catchy phrase of the week: New Direction.
Are the Dems schitzophrenic? Damn, they're so busy giving the folks slogans. Why don't they just stand up and tell us what you'd actually do if you had the power????...
Thought so...
Logically incoherent. But then that's SOP for liberals.
If you think health care is expensive now, wait till it's FREE.
...because the common person wants a common representative who doesn't consider herself above the common law. Myself and my fellow common Democrats promise to model our common society after the common ideology of communism where we all live in communes and everybody must work for the common good of everbody else without ever considering advancement in common society. It's common that these societies fail, but we common Democrats are much smarter than the common person so we will implement our common goals with or without common support.
New direction - sounds like higher taxes, hide from terrorist and more welfare.
