LONDON The vice premier of China, Zeng Peiyan, has called for more semiconductor industry cooperation between the United States and China adding that his country would increase protection for intellectual property rights, according to a Xinhua report carried by the People's Daily. Zeng met with a delegation from the U.S. Semiconductor Industry Association (SIA) on Thursday (June 15) and said he hoped U.S. semiconductor companies would set up R&D operations in China, which would help train Chinese semiconductor engineers, the report said.
At the same time Zeng said China would increase its efforts to protect intellectual property rights, the report said. In the past a lack of regard for IP in China and tendancy towards IP piracy has been a barrier to some companies' involvement in the country.
In recognition of Chinese progress the World Semiconductor Council recently extended an invitation to the China Semiconductor Industry Association (CSIA) to join its membership (see June 14 story). The WSC, established in 1996, includes the industry associations of the world's leading semiconductor-producing regions.
The delegation was headed by SIA chairman Brian Halla and included representatives from Advanced Micro Devices, Intel, Micron Technologies and Quicklogic, the report said.

Translation: "You aren't transferring ALL the means of your prosperity to us fast enough. We need this training as another step in our path to purify you."
Next will come threats of production problems for the cheap stuff they make now.
I welcome our new Chinese overlords.

paging Bill Gates, you have a customer wanting to steal from you and your associates.
since Bill has all the money just let Bill know the chicoms are moving in and Bill will assimilate them into his dot com empire, thus no more chicoms.

Give us access to your technology and BTW a key in defense and we'll not illegally clone and copy your stuff - as much by enforcing international copyrights a little better. WTF over?!
Am I reading this right?

Hey, I got an idea: How 'bout you guyz live up to the agreements you signed already (with a wink and a nod) to protect intellectual property rights? Does "WTO" ring a bell? Huh?
Reminds me of the old Soviet negotiating m.o."What's mine is mine, what's yours is negotiable".

"Chinese politician calls for U.S. chip cooperation, says report"
Zeng Peiyan is a member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee. He joined the Communist Party of China (CPC) in September 1978.
So the thugs whose "great leaps forward" landed on the backs of millions of Chinese citizens killing them are now just politicians.
I thought that only the goo-goo-googles believed that B.S.
"Useful idiots" was Lenin's name for the goo-goo-googles.

Well, I guess I now understand where North Korea gets their ideas from.
"Either you give us rice, grain, and heating oil, or we'll attack South Korea." That's no shit the message N. Korea sends year after year.
The sad part about this is that we actually cave in! South Korea the US and I believe Japan then send tons of food and millions of barrels of oil to this backwards tin pot regime.
Look at the EU and Iran. Not much different. It's really amazing that the West with its appeasing, un-unified, short sighted political agendas has climbed to the top the way it has. Real news would be if CBS reported about how our administration wanted to overlook the blatant violations of US laws along the US Mexican boarder. Real news is US patents and copyrights being violated in mass and the Chinese government looking the other way. Real news is us feeding North Korea through its winters with them threatening war if we don't do so. But those are "minor" stories to such great investigative reporters like Rather. They would rather run around flaunting forged documents that fit into their world view.
