" [T]he use of alcohol as a beverage can and does impede our testimony for the Lord Jesus Christ,"
Sure. And the refusal to use alcohol as a beverage can and does impede our testimony, as one appears to non-believers as a holier-than-thou with a stick up one's rear.
Having a drink is not a sin. Being drunk, such that one loses one's facilities, is. There is a huge distinction.

Many Southern Baptists have huge guts, what about overeating?
Everything in moderation.

As I heard one helpful unbeliever say, "Never trust a man who won't drink."

I would invite anyone to drink two beers, two glasses of wine, or two shots of whisky, all which are by the way equal in alchohol content. After you drink them, get in your automobile, start driving and call the traffic police to pull you over. Then convince him your judgment is not impaired. I think you would be legally defined as "under the influence."

Moreover, the stuff killed my father and I grew up without him. Having a drink is not a sin, but there is no chance for alcoholism if the first drink is never taken. Therefore, I choose not to. Your claim that I'm a bad witness because I don't drink alcholic beverages is a stupid and outrageous thing to say.
