I don't quite understand your comment....I was commenting on how the Dems are acting like insurgents who use the media (and the courts) instead of bombs...the post I responded to read like he was talking about the terrorists in Iraq, until the last line where you found out he was talking about the Dem leadership all along...

Ah...I imagine that some will get amnesty, but I suspect they will be homeboys who can be vouched for and controlled by their clans, melded into the military and things like that...and then others, especially foreigners and those who really stirred the pot to keep the terrorism going, will find not so much welcome...

It's a sign that the war is winding down, and the politicians want to try to put the unrest to bed. If they can do it well, it will be good. If not, well, it was going to be a problem anyway, even if they didn't try.

There is a point near the end of any war like this (which had aspects of civil war) where you have to let the people back in the fold. Or you can go through a really nasty purge. Purging is almost impossible to do in a democracy, paricularly one made up of groups with such defining cultural walls between them.

This is always a tricky step. It has been done with some success in other places, but its never easy.
