Ann Coulter Wows Leno Audience (snicker snicker!)
NewsMax ^ | 6/17/06

Liberals may hate Ann Coulter, but the folks in the audience of Jay Leno’s "Tonight Show” roared their approval of the controversial author when she was introduced on Wednesday night.

Asked by Leno to explain all the controversy surrounding her No. 1 bestselling book "Godless: The Church of Liberalism," Coulter said: "Well, I wrote a book and liberals were hysterical. Every time I write a book liberals are hysterical. It happens all the time.”

Noting that Leno had joked about her the night before, saying that like the Wicked Witch in "The Wizard of Oz” she had a house fall on her as a result of her book, Ann countered: "I just dropped my house on the mainstream media.” The audience cheered.

Ann explained that before the book came out she gave it to her friends, including liberals, and not one of them complained about her remarks about the so-called Jersey Girls.

"Not my friends, not my editors, not the lawyers and not the liberals, pulled out the chapter on the Jersey Girls,” she said. Coulter has drawn fire from some – including Hillary Clinton – for attacking the four New Jersey widows who pushed for an independent commission to investigate the 9/11 World Trade Center attacks that killed their husbands. Coulter accused the women of "reveling in their status as celebrities and stalked by grief-arazzis.”

Commenting on Leno’s complaint that political discourse nowadays is so nasty, Coulter said: "We hear this all the time, about how civil things were back when there were only three TV stations” and nobody could talk back to the liberals.

Now, she said, there has suddenly been an alleged "disruption of civility” only because conservatives can talk back thanks to talk radio, the Internet and Fox News.

Asked if she is hurt by liberal attacks on her, Coulter said she wears them "as a badge of honor.” She added that she was surprised that liberals have failed to object to being called "Godless,” and have concentrated their fire on one small part of one chapter, when she criticized the Jersey Girls

The much anticipated fireworks between Coulter and acid-tongued comedian George Carlin never came off, with Carlin sitting beside Ann smiling and saying nothing throughout her conversation with Leno except to note that he had to "move to the right” to allow Ann to sit beside her host.

During her 8 1/2 minutes on stage, Ann was interrupted by vigorous applause time and again.

It was not a conservative audience. We just had enough there to set the stage early in support of Ann and set the tone. Leno got it quickly when we gave a rousing cheer in his monologue about Rove not being indicted. That line wasn't even the punch line.

I can be that 'good' (at a comeback), but I cannot be that quick. Ann is blessed with being good AND quick. "Rapier" is an appropriate description of her wit, and meant as a flattering one.

Of the two..I go for Leno. Letterman strikes me as
a 24 carrot phony....Leno has that innate ability to
adjust with alacrity,.....Jake

We took the kids to see Cars last week. It really was a good movie. Carlin lent his voice to Filmore the old, rusty VW Bus. It was perfectly cast. My kids & I liked the movie but my husband a certifiable car geek was in awe over the details Pixar used in the keeping with the car theme.

As for the Carlin comments IMO he is just an old time comedian who gets that manners and his employer demand that his behavior be civil. I remember as a young kid loving his "Class Clown" album. My family is Catholic and the routines he did about the Catholic church even brought tears to my parents eyes.

He was not ticked off. They had an opening in the show and only notified her a few days ago that they wanted her.

I think Carlin played nice because Ann Coulter would've eaten his lunch. When faced with someone armed with facts and reason, your garden-variety liberal has a hard time standing their ground - their arguments typically come down to an emotional sound bite. Considering that Coulter is a quick thinker and good communicator, Carlin would've really looked stupid. I'm sure there are libs who could hold their own against Coulter, but Carlin isn't one of them.

It was indeed a wonderful time. I had the opportunity at the dinner afterwards to tell Ann about INDICTING HILLARY. Ann did not know that defendant Bill Clinton has a date in court next March in Los Angeles.

It sounds like George was afraid to take her on. He will be bad mouthing her on stage when she is not there.

I had Ann sign HOW TO TALK TO A LIBERAL If You Must, a photo of Katie crying with a tag line of her reaction to al-Zarqawi's death, and a picture of her playing card as the wicked witch --- http://tinypic.com/14ieflu.jpg. And I gave her a printed out ANNIES SONG, which I wrote for her birthday last December.

Could Ann be persuaded to eat at Wendy's, Burger King and McDonald's a bit more often? I would like to see her sexy look enhanced with just a few more calories consumed!

I agree, it certainly wouldn't damage her looks in any way if she were to put on another 10-15 pounds at least.

I thought Carlin was a gentleman and let her have her moment without interrupting.

"He just turned 70"
On the show he said he just turned 69 (then offered a tasteless bit about how that was his and his brothers favorite number. Haha).

Ann was very good and I was most pleased to see how much the audience supported her. I had no idea some Freepers had gotten tickets and were on hand to cheer her on. Well done, boys and girls.

Did anyone stick around to see the so-called musician who closed the show? On her guitar was a sticker that said something like "This machine crushes Fascists" (not sure of exact words, but close). Not only was her performance dreadful, but watching her I thought to myself how overly serious such shallow people take themselves. I figured she and Ann might have gone to the mat after she peformed, but I had to turn off her caterwauling because my ears were beginning to bleed.

Also, he was on there promoting a family film from Disney.

He was there to promote Cars, which I guess is a movie about some animated cars. Gore must hate that movie, because he thinks the internal combustion engine is the greatest threat to mankind. And here's a movie that promotes this for children.

So why is George Carlin promoting a right-wing movie?

I was wondering if Carlin would actually not want to provide any more controversy (either for the Tonight Show or Coulter) and just hold his tongue. It seems so.

It's also simply a matter of the protocol of The Tonight Show. Typically, the earlier guests slide down the couch and sit there mostly quietly. They're supposed to let Jay (Nee: Johnny) interview the new guest and not try to upstage the host. There's exceptions of course, but the traditional protocol happens most of the time even among guests that you'd think would fight like cats.

I saw Cars this weekend. It is a good movie, has James the liberal Taylor singing his message of liberism. But it really is cute movie and clean. I hope it is number one again this weekend.

Hollywood just seems to never get it.........but Disney is trying by putting out this type of movie.
