June 15, 2006 -- WHO'D have thought it possible even a month ago? President Bush is getting his mojo back.
The president just had the best week of his second term, perhaps of his entire presidency - and the end of the investigation of Karl Rove, which would have been the headline grabber not long ago, had little to do with it.
Instead, the president's brilliantly conceived and executed trip to Baghdad - giving exactly the right boost at the right time to new Iraqi prime minister Nouri al-Maliki - capped off seven days that included the forming of a full Iraqi Cabinet and the success of the U.S. military in locating, bombing and killing Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, the sadistic Jordanian-born insurgency leader that Osama bin Laden once called the "prince of Iraq."
Equally significant, the night Zarqawi died, American forces staged 17 raids on insurgent targets. By Monday, they had launched 140 more. On the day of the president's visit, 75,000 troops fanned out over Baghdad, ordered to clear the Iraqi capital of the violence and anarchy that has plagued it for months.

"I've had more freepers tell me I must be a troll because I don't agree with every word Ann Coulter writes that I've decided FR has undergone a massive nervous breakdown and been taken over by pod people." LOL! What???? You don't bow before the goddess? ;-)
I do to. I don't think there is one among us that can imagine the complexity of the burdens he carries. Yet, he confronts those burdens head-on, knowing full well that criticism can and will come from all quarters. I honestly believe that within a half-generation, this President will be thought of in the same vein as Ronald Reagan. My opinion, FWIW.
Plus lets not forget not that long ago we got two great Justices sworn in. That was also a great accomplishment IMO.
Glad to see you back, Howlin.
How are you, my FRiend? I hope well.....I am so sorry for your loss.
Yea, George Bush.
It isn't keeping our country safe from terror.
Yea, George Bush. It isn't moral conservatism.
Is it George's moral conservatism? I am not sure what that is?
It isn't conservative Supreme Court judges.
We had to twist his arm for the second.
It isn't accountability in schools.
Accountability is great. Letting Ted Kennedy define accountability and the concurrent costs wasn't.
It isn't fighting the environmentalist wackos (who would ratify Kyoto).
Yea, George Bush.
It isn't honesty and decency in the White House.
Yea George Bush.
It isn't sticking to your principles regardless of the press, the dims and the whiners.
Some of his principles I don't agree with. Especially his constant denigration of the American worker and his adulation of hispanic illegals.
When was the last time George traveled around the country telling the average American how great he is? He has done so to the illegals in spanish but won't do it in English for the American.
. What the heck is it?
It's making tax cuts permanent, reducing the cost of govt. not increasing it. It's securing our borders, especially after 9-11. It's not signing on to every bill that comes out of Congress regardless of the cost (drug plan, CFR, Dept of education spending (from 35 to 75 billion in five years.))
Help me out, here.
If I were a rabid bushbot I would need help, too.
That was a very kind message. Thank you.
Lando
TROLLdown!!!!
No real reason for that...just didn't want to be left out. :)
All the best, FRiend!
Lando
LOL.
"There must come a time when you need to stop fretting about this so-called invasion by the Hispanic-American albeit non-citizens."
I am nearly your age. Unlike you, I haven't surrendered. These ain't your Daddy's "immigrants."
Here's a difference:
My grandfather took 21 years to pay off the doctor for the nine children he and my grandmother bore over a 13-year period. Today's "immigrant" walks into a hospital, drops her anchor baby, and walks out without paying a bill that you pay. What if your hospital shuts down because illegals use it as their first-aid kit? What if you need ER treatment...but it's not available without an extra-long ambulance ride to the hospital 36 miles away, that hasn't shut down yet...and you don't make it?
My grandparents wept openly when they became naturalized citizens--a process that took 19 years, since they were so busy raising kids and surviving.
My grandparents forbad their children to speak their Italian, because they weren't living in Italy--they were living in America. Learn English! they were told daily. They considered living here to be a gift, and taught their children that it was worth fighting for (and they did, in WW II)
My grandparents raised 9 children who raised 28 children who raised 63 children!...and every one of them speaks English and is productive...and helps pay the extra tax burden that the tens of millions of illegals in this country burden local, state and the federal government with.
I know their ships' names, where they were built, where they berthed from...their names are on ship manifests and Ellis Island rosters. They were smiling-proud, humble and law-abiding from their literal first step onto our shores.
Give up if you want: "When one looks at the prospects for the survival of the USA longterm, evidently the 20 million illegals here serve an abundance of good."
As for myself, I will never accept or embrace a horde of ignorant, uneducated lawbreakers who are swarming over our way of life with no appreciation of the sacrifices that created and maintained this unique country.
Happy Freaking Birthday.
Thank you, Lando. We who do not bow to political pundits may some day find ourselves divorcing FR if things don't change around here.
:-)
Three perfect examples of why those of us who live with, and strive for the goals of respect and honor and strength of character want nothing to do with those of you who live without any of what we value.
Thanks for verification that we are on the right side of this battle.
I don't have one at hand, because I came across the references while skimming - but it is interesting to see how much Bush sounds today as he did during his 2000 campaign in regards immigration.
I haven't stopped praying for you. May God continue to give you comfort.
Welcome back!
ray.............you need to come face to face with the Christ of the Cross. I will continue to pray to that end.
Thanks.
