June 15, 2006 -- WHO'D have thought it possible even a month ago? President Bush is getting his mojo back.
The president just had the best week of his second term, perhaps of his entire presidency - and the end of the investigation of Karl Rove, which would have been the headline grabber not long ago, had little to do with it.
Instead, the president's brilliantly conceived and executed trip to Baghdad - giving exactly the right boost at the right time to new Iraqi prime minister Nouri al-Maliki - capped off seven days that included the forming of a full Iraqi Cabinet and the success of the U.S. military in locating, bombing and killing Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, the sadistic Jordanian-born insurgency leader that Osama bin Laden once called the "prince of Iraq."
Equally significant, the night Zarqawi died, American forces staged 17 raids on insurgent targets. By Monday, they had launched 140 more. On the day of the president's visit, 75,000 troops fanned out over Baghdad, ordered to clear the Iraqi capital of the violence and anarchy that has plagued it for months.

I heard it come from his evil little mouth.
And it was NOTHING like you said. You believed a lie........or you are a liar.
(btw....."lapdog" was a cute little touch...........did you think of that all by your cute little self?)
You must not be listening to the news on what is going on at the Border. Coyote are NOW charing 2500.00 to 3000.00 to get an illigal over on the US side. It was 200-300 a couple weeks ago. We have 65 troops on Arizona border and they have decreased crossing by 33% just in that state, we will have more by the end of the week.
Texas crossing have decreased by 23% in less than a week.
OPEN YOUR EARS AND EYES, we are seeing progress. I live here in Texas and I can assure you we are seeing progress. Not to mention the thousands that were rounded up yesterday.
Ye of little faith need to wake up and start praising W for what is going on.
You're right about a good number of things. Illegal immigration is a huge and growing problem, as is our energy dependency, as is the threat posed by Iran. But the Democrats are utterly clueless on all these fronts, and the American people know it. George Bush is far from perfect, but he's far from clueless, too. I think he's starting to "get it" on immigration - we need to keep the pressure up. He is handling Iraq well, and from what I've seen, has no illusions about Iran. The economy is humming along nicely, too.
Republicans in Congress are the main problem. Unlike the criminal enterprise known as the Democrat Party, Republicans are merely craven, cowardly and stuck-on-stupid (I'll have a few choice words for Charlie Bass next time I see him in the cigar store in Concord). Maybe if they had to fill up thier own SUV's with their own money, they'd get cracking on new power plants and refineries.
Nonetheless, when push comes to shove (and it will), I'll be glad to have Bush in the Oval Office instead of any Democrat you could name. And I'll be sure to thank the Guy upstairs for that, too.
True. That's why I posted #77, was to try to recalibrate what I was trying to say.
This trip was an act of bravery that capped off a series of incredible events that have resulted in the perseverance and patience and STRONG leadership of President Bush.
I agree.
The symbolism is unquestionable. No one said that it wasn't still dangerous in Iraq, but that doesn't take away one single bit from this incredible event. It was an historic moment of monumental proportions, and downplaying it, IMO, is very shortsighted on your part.
You're probably right about this too (man, am I folding like a rental chair or what?) For me personally, the trip to Iraq didn't really make much of a difference. Not that it wasn't a good trip, but it didn't change my views or feelings on anything, so I guess it is just me. To me, the best thing is that increasingly, the Iraqi gubmint is taking responsibility. We are seeing media reports from the "Iraqi Nat'l Security Advisor." That's really really good to see. And you are right that it was a brave mission. But I guess that's my one negative point, is that the bravery also underlines the continuing danger that needs to be dealt with. But I totally understand how it came off when I wrote what I wrote, and I guess even when I state it more accurately, I'm probably still out of synch with most ppl. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.
If he had bought up his valid points in the threads where they were being discussed, I would not have made my comment. But to me, only a person with a loser's mindset always feels compelled to bring up something negative. The MSM always pulls the "Yea but (insert something negative)" to try to trash any positive story, and we call that for what it is, so why is it ok when one of us do it?
See post 82.
It just put an exclamation point on what is truly going on in Iraq, and showed the American people that they have been lied to incessantly about Iraq and denied all the positive information about the incredible progress there that the MSM has deliberately kept from them.
And as the Mom of a 'boy' who was there for 15 months and was a small part of this monumental victory, this trip meant a whole lot to me.
(Glad I'm not the only one who didn't know! Too lazy to look it up myself.... :)
Thats the idea if every thread has to be hijacked then at least be considerate of feelings.
Look. Nothing was said to Mouse that needs an apology.
And tenure on this site isn't a license to be stupid.
And I'm one to know (check my date).
I have been critical of President Bush in the past. If I said or done anything to counter your good news, I apologize.
Nice reply. I am truly sick and tired of every thread on FR being hijacked by the "illegal immigration all the time crowd.
We know, but that 'we' is not all of America. The MSM had to cover this and force people to pay attention.
I guess you've been here so freaking long your brain is past its expiration date, but thanks so much for butting in where you weren't asked to.
I have to agree...time to stop catering to the female voting sector, with all that gushy emotional stuff, and get back in the saddle...
I butt in where needed, and the comment about my brain was childish.
But that's what you resort to, isn't it? Personal insults when you have nothing substantive.
You're the one who brought up validating people according to their sign up date, not me.
"If he had bought up his valid points in the threads where they were being discussed, I would not have made my comment."
Who died and made you thread cop?
"But to me, only a person with a loser's mindset always feels compelled to bring up something negative."
But, uh, aren't you being negative when you call him a loser? He wasn't trashing a positive story by bringing it up, so please don't go invoking the "MSM" to justify your bad behavior. Just be man enough to say you're sorry.
Bingo!
Your theory is backed up by hundreds of examples, altura. The massive evidence that there is a deliberate attempt to hijack every thread about President Bush and turn it into an immigration bash, regardless of its original subject, is becoming irrefutable.
Can you imagine any other group on FR, no matter what it is, doing this kind of nonsense and rationalizing that it was justifiable? These monotones are uniquely irrational.
OH MY GOSH!
You read my mind. :D
Just for the sake of intellectual honesty.
