Insider trading conviction of Soros is upheld

The highest court in France on Wednesday rejected a bid by George Soros, the billionaire investor, to overturn a conviction for insider trading in a case dating back nearly 20 years, leaving the first blemish on his five-decade investing career.

The panel, the Cour de Cassation, upheld the conviction of Soros, 75, an American citizen, for buying and selling Société Générale shares in 1988 after receiving information about a planned corporate raid on the bank.

Ron Soffer, his lawyer, said Soros planned to take the case to the European Court of Human Rights, saying that the length of the proceedings had prevented his client from having a fair trial.

"The investigation started in 1989," he said. "The appeals trial occurred in 2004. How can you call witnesses and ask them about what happened in 1988?" The French stock market regulatory authority investigated the matter separately and concluded that Soros had not violated the law or any ethical rules, Soffer said.

The French authorities have not yet determined what fine Soros will pay.

What a shocker that the biggest contributor to the Democrats is a convicted crook.

Man, a French court convicted him. I wasn't aware that they actually found people guilty over there.

Nothing but a scummy crook...his manipulation of bond markets have caused nothing but grief all over the world.

I hope Putin locks him up if he ever steps foot in Russia.

That means he didn't pay enough in bribes.

The Culture of Corruption...or is Pelosi going to start pretending Soros never helped the Democrat party?

They were all over Bush for knowing Ken Lay, yet for some reason the MSM never seem to connect Soros with the Dems.

Are they talking about the same matter? Looks like a complete mess.

I would assume this gives Soros status as a convicted felon.

I suspect Soros has a pecuniary interest in electing a Democrat.

I see the beginnings of spiral downward for Soros. It can't come soon enough for me.

There are a few other pimples on George Soros' butt. Seems like he got a good deal of his fortune by currency manipulations in some of the Eastern European economies during the transition period after the fall of the Iron Curtain, and before a market economy was sufficiently established to erect some safeguards against this sort of thing. He may be under indictment, if not already convicted, in several countries, not only France (a nation which probably richly deserves to be fleeced by somebody just like George Soros).

I feel..so...sympatico...with..France suddenly. Strange feelings of *you go* are rising in my throat. Must not allow myself to be overcome with hope, though. It's only one atta-boy. Doesn't seem to be any danger of a trend at this point.

As for Soros, boo-le-hoo. What does it feel like to be even less sympathetic a figure than France??
