Moscow, June 14: The situation in Afghanistan, regional developments and bilateral ties will come up for discussion during talks Russian President Vladimir Putin will have with his Pakistani counterpart Pervez Musharraf on the sidelines of the SCO summit in Shanghai on Thursday.

Putin, who today left for Shanghai to attend the 10th jubilee session of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) will have a series of bilateral meetings tomorrow on the sidelines of the SCO Summit, presidential aide Sergei Prikhodko said.

Besides holding talks with Musharraf, the Russian President will have separate meetings with Chinese President Hu Jintao, Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, and Mongolian President Nambaryn Enkhbayar.

During his meeting with Hu, Putin will discuss political cooperation on key issues while "paying special attention to problems of economic cooperation, particularly in transport, machine-building and energy as well as issues of cultural and humanitarian cooperation," Prikhodko said.

The Iranian nuclear issue will come up for discussion during Putin's meeting with Ahmadinejad.

"It is planned that some international issues will be discussed as well, such as the talks over the development of the Iranian peaceful nuclear program and the situation around Iraq," the aide said.

Meanwhile, Putin in an article said, that the "factor of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation is a considerable element of stability on the wide Eurasian Space."

"This is a reality of modern regional and global politics," he said in the article published by the government daily Rossiskaya Gazeta today.

"Let me recall that the creation of this regional organisation was the result of time-consuming efforts to strengthen mutual confidence. If take into account that in parallel we have to tackle other serious problems, then we really can be proud of persistence, purposefulness and forbearance shown by all member-countries," Putin said. "After serious talks, the parties managed to settle border issues. It is enough to say that there were no other precedents of such outcomes in Asia - either by border extension or composition of participants," he wrote in his article published by the government daily.

Maybe when Pakistan joins SCO officially, then they will demand the US withdrawal from Afghanistan like Russia, China and the other members of the SCO have.

Some of the Commies in India want India to join the SCO and withdraw orders for the F-16 fighters, instead buying more Russian and Chinese aircraft.

Is Deora a Commie?

"Improving ties with China is India's priority: Deora"

Shanghai, June 14 (PTI / The Hindu): Sino-India bilateral ties have acquired strategic significance for peace, stability and development of Asia and the world, Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Murali Deora said here today.

"Developing friendly relations with China is an important priority of the Government of India," Deora said on his arrival in Shanghai.

He is heading the Indian delegation for the Fifth Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit which begins here tomorrow.

"My visit takes place against the backdrop of sustained development and diversification of India-China relations," he said in a statement.

"The overall trend of this relationship has become overwhelmingly positive with regular high-level exchanges. The rapidly growing trade and economic ties between our two countries are pointers to the fact that India and China are now steadily engaged in mutually rewarding pursuits as friends and partners," he said.

"Our strategic and cooperative partnership is reflective of the forward-looking vision of the political leadership in both countries and is based on our shared conviction that India-China relations have now acquired a long-term, global and strategic character, with important bearing for peace and stability, as well as development and prosperity, of Asia and the world at large," Deora said.

When did India order F-16s or any American aircraft & which Chinese aircraft are you talking about?????

If anything, the warplane deal is being delayed due to hard-bargaining with the US.

& what about the US role in trying to ease tensions btween Islamabad & Delhi???You seem to have conviniently ignored that.

No way. Dont buy into such stupid propoganda. A very large and well financed army (> 20% of the govt budget)under the command of educated generals controls pakistan. This has been the way for generations. A mullah simply cannot overturn such a solid powerbase. That you have been led to believe such a thing is brainwashing. Remember when Mush took over Pak, it was a bloodless coup. The army is that powerful in Pak.
They want you to believe that a mullah could take over so that US keeps supporting the military ie not force them to have democracy.

I didnt know we had already placed the orders for F-16s that we are now trying to "withdraw".

And what Chinese aircrafts are we trying to buy?

Precisely what I was thinking. Besides we don't want more planes to crash. After that Chinese plane went down, I dont see why we need to pay money to kill our pilots in crashes. I wish the Americans pass the nuclear deal and Bush can come back to propose the missile defence shield again. I am sure we can then discuss a more full-based cooperation with the Americans.

How stupid can the Indians be? First buying Russian weapons and now warming up to the Chinese!

Someone needs to get some sence in New Delhi.

Thunder90 keeps dishing out the same thrash about India planning to buy Chinese weaponry without producing an iota of proof for it.

Oh well so much for that. Atleast 50% of our weapon acquisition is aimed at countering the Chinese. So why exactly we would buy Chinese planes that (even without the Chinese wanting it,) crash. Same reason why Huawei will probably be kept out of the telecom network services in India. The looming China threat is clearly visible to everyone in India barring the commie-Karats and our Muzzie Mullahs.
