NC Marine: 'I apologize for any feelings that may have been hurt in the Muslim community'
by OfficialWire NewsDesk
WASHINGTON, D.C. -- (OfficialWire) -- 06/14/06 -- The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) today welcomed an apology by a U.S. Marine who posted a song on the Internet that the group, and Pentagon officials, termed "insensitive" and "inappropriate."
Cpl. Joshua Belile, who lives in North Carolina and recently returned from duty in Iraq, says the "Hadji Girl" video describing an encounter with an Iraqi woman posted on youtube.com in March was just a "joke."
The song's lyrics included: "I grabbed her little sister and put her in front of me. As the bullets began to fly, the blood sprayed from between her eyes, and then I laughed maniacally. . .I blew those little f**kers to eternity. . .They should have known they were f**king with the Marines."
Belile said that he apologizes to anyone who may have been offended by the lyrics. He told the Jacksonville Daily News: "I apologize for any feelings that may have been hurt in the Muslim community. This song was written in good humor and not aimed at any party, foreign or domestic. . .I will never perform this song again, and I will remove all video and text in relation to this that I have control of."
"We welcome Corporal Belile's apology and will leave it to military authorities to determine whether any disciplinary action is warranted," said CAIR Executive Director Nihad Awad. "Our intent was never to target an individual Marine, but instead to address the larger issue of insensitivity to the suffering of Iraqi civilians."
Awad repeated his call for congressional hearings on the behavior of American military personnel in Iraq and in other Muslim nations such as Afghanistan.
CAIR, America's largest Muslim civil liberties group, has 32 offices and chapters nationwide and in Canada. Its mission is to enhance the understanding of Islam, encourage dialogue, protect civil liberties, empower American Muslims, and build coalitions that promote justice and mutual understanding.
The marine is an idiot. I hope the brass really lights into him over this.
A little psycho, but then again, what a psycho friggin enemy the poor marines have to fight.
I don't disagree, but CAIR's repeated calls for Congressional witch hunts are thinly veiled attempts to aid the enemy.
My understanding is that he performed the song privately. It was taped and someone else posted it without his approval or permission.
An a$$-chewing by the first sergeant is usually sufficient. And the idiot with the camera phone needs what we called "wall-to-wall counseling" in the Army.
CAIR makes it look like the Marine was advocating the killing of civilians. Actually, it was the father and brother of the two gals killed in the song who did the killing, until the Marine returned fire.
He is an E-4 - what do you expect?
Remind you of anything?
This is all about humiliating the Marines.. the song has real meaning and actually some worth in country.
It really is a shame this young person was shut down. The clip was the latest in a string of "Drive by" attacks on our people.
When is CAIR going to apologize for lying to the American People, or demand that the terrorist who are killing our guys apologize for using Iraqi civilians as human shields. That's what I want to know.
I thought the song was funny and clever. CAIR deserves no apology.
In the context and crowd where it was, it was a lighthearted moment with what looked like a bunch of Marines having some beers and some fun. And yes... believe it or not... sometimes Marines say bad words and get a little glib about death and blood. Imagine that.
But now in the world we live in, every moment there could be a camera and and a web server that spreads any drunken bud-fest all over the world. If this is the new standard for behavior-- I think it's a bad thing.
People need to lighten up.
I hope not.
Allow me to translate from CAIRese: "If the military authorities fail to discipline him to our satisfaction, we'll complain louder and apply more pressure until they do."
Right out of the daily news, except that a Marine would not shield himself with a little girl.
CAIR should be apologizing that it supports a religion that causes people to kill innocent civilians and behead captives and enslave women.
The lyrics aren't anything to be proud of, but it seems to me this was just a mindless bit of fun that's been blown all out of proportion. Case in point, IMHO the term "terrible" is more descriptive of the lyrics in Al Qaeda's beheading videos. For this Hadji Girl clip I think "juvenile" and "immature" work much better.
His apology is sufficient. Move along folks, nothing to see here.
That is a very selective choice of the lyrics. He "grabbed" their daughter because their OTHER daughter had just lured him into the house to "meet her parents", and the parents pulled AK-47s out and were going to shoot him.
Then they SHOT their daughter, and that is when he laughed "maniacally" and shot the terrorist parents who had just murdered their own daughter.
Kind of a different perspective.
Of course, it's "offensive" because anytime you point out that terrorists are muslims you "offend" people.
Actually, if you think about it... it really drives home the point that the terrorists wouldn't think twice about killing their own women or children... I'd say it describes a pretty accurate picture of the type of fanatics they are dealing with.
You've been duped.
