Carlin, Coulter in 'Tonight' smackdown? Comedian, author to share couch on Leno show Wednesday, June 14, 2006; Posted: 12:57 p.m. EDT (16:57 GMT) LOS ANGELES, California (AP) -- "Tonight" host Jay Leno might want to consider wearing referee stripes on Wednesday's show when Ann Coulter and George Carlin are his guests.
Coulter, the acid-tongued conservative with a new book out, and Carlin, the quick-witted, antiestablishment comedian who's in the voice cast for the new animated film "Cars," were booked at separate times for the NBC late-nighter, a spokeswoman said Monday.
But the duo's meeting could produce serious fireworks for "Tonight," which usually limits its political fodder to Leno's bipartisan monologue jokes. Coulter, author of "Godless: The Church of Liberalism," has drawn fire for attacking the four New Jersey widows who pushed for an independent commission to investigate the September 11 World Trade Center attacks in which their husbands died. In her book, Coulter accuses the women of "reveling in their status as celebrities and stalked by grief-arazzis. I've never seen people enjoying their husbands' deaths so much."
An appearance by Coulter on another NBC series, "Today," led to a prickly exchange with host Matt Lauer over her comments on the widows. Also scheduled for "Tonight" Wednesday is Scottish singer and songwriter KT Tunstall.

Right. What the fruitcakes are afraid of is that Coulter will let the air out of the little moralistic balloon known as liberalism.
Expect tons of booing and catcalls from the 'audience'.
I may actually try to stay up and watch it (which would be a personal first).
35, but who's counting?

So, are we to assume Carlin has read Ann's book and disagrees with her?
George Carlin and Ann Coulter actually have quite a bit in common with the way they discuss things.
It won't matter. Ann Coulter will destroy him. She's twice as intelligent as that bumbling Leftist tool.
I hope she looks nice. It'll give her an advantage with Leno and Carlin.
I heard the first minute or so of his monologue last night and turned it off. Spewing nothing but left wing trash.
It bears recalling that Carlin spent a good number of years under the influence of a variety of recreational drugs and then there was his medical problems. Don't think his fastball has all it had. I do hope that Ann just keeps her cool and waits on the hanging curve one of the two of these guys is certain to try to sneak past her. Hit that one, very hard. Leave the rest as consolation for the aging guys who would, were she not conservative, be ogling her for Clintonic purposes.
Carlin will start shouting, the audience will join in, Leno will sit there with his face in a pucker, and Ann won't get to say a word. Or anyway, not very many words. They'll shut her up. They'll shout her down. They'll drown her out. They are not bringing her on to hear what she has to say but to be a sacraficial piniata for the pin-heads to pillory.
If that washed up old fossil thinks he can match wits with Annie, she will disabuse him of that notion quickly.
I"ll bet money that Ann will be on first, otherwise Carlin is going to look his confused self.
"I've never seen people enjoy their husbands' deaths so much." I can see saying this in the heat of the moment on a live radio broadcast or cable TV show and then retracting it but a BOOK? A book is the most deliberative process there is and one would think she would have deleted this at the last minute. What's next, saying Michael Berg is happy his son Nick was beheaded by Zarqawi so that he could run for Congress from Delaware?
I think Bill O'Reilly was right on target in his comments about her on the "Today" show, that she is merely preaching to the choir and isn't the least bit interested in getting moderates and others on her side. Maybe she's even a liberal plant to make conservatives look bad if you want to be conspiratorial about it.
Then all she has to say is "you are making my point for me."
She has used that phrase a lot lately.
Carlin is a pretty weird bird, one day he is a lefty spouting liberal garbage, the next day he is trashing the entire left wing.
One of my buddies refers to him and the "multiple personality left wing conservative".
