It's 'Putdown With Keith Olbermann' [Rita Cosby dumber than rocks]
New York Daily News ^ | June 14, 2006 | Lloyd Grove

Posted on 06/14/2006 9:43:36 AM PDT by Quilla

Now that Dan Abrams has given up his MSNBC show to run the third-place cable news outlet, he might want to focus on the rising tensions between two of his prime-time personalities: Keith Olbermann and Rita Cosby.

Olbermann, whose "Countdown With Keith Olbermann" airs weeknights at 8, apparently has precious little respect for Cosby, whose "Rita Cosby: Live & Direct" airs at 10 p.m.

"Rita's nice," Olbermann wrote to a fan from his MSNBC E-mail account, "but dumber than a suitcase of rocks." Yesterday Cosby retorted: "Keith got it wrong. I'm not that nice."

But a Cosby intimate gasped when informed of Olbermann's E-mail. "That's incredibly disappointing," he said.

An MSNBC spokesman didn't dispute the authenticity of the months-old E-mail, which came to light this week after the recipient shared it with this column on condition of anonymity.

In his E-mail, Olbermann was also dismissive of then-MSNBC President Rick Kaplan, who left the network last week with six months to go on his three-year contract.

"And Kaplan?" Olbermann wrote to his fan. "He was the producer of that special last night — now known as the Kanye West Show." It was a reference to an embarrassing incident during NBC's Hurricane Katrina telethon on which the popular rapper departed from his script to claim President Bush "doesn't care about black people."

Olbermann, who didn't comment yesterday, was said to be on vacation — though he managed to turn up Monday night at a book party for Al Gore at the American Museum of Natural History.

There, the media blog Jossip.com asked Olbermann — who was accompanied by "his self-described 'friend' Katie" — if he'll now be answering to Abrams.

"I don't answer to anybody," Olbermann insisted.

We'll see.

Abrams always struck me as a decent fellow- but he's surely got his hands full with the current line-up @ MSNBC.

I used to go between MSNBC & FNC..but it's been years since I turned MSNBC on- except yesterday- HAD to watch Matty in meltdown after the news of Rove NOT being indicted and the president going to Iraq.

I was immediately reminded why I don't watch the station.

Maybe the fact that Keith doesn't answer to anybody explains why he has been employed in the last few years by every station from ESPN to Al Jazeera. What a load.

I agree. I'm going to stick by my assertion that these two are in cahoots and angling to utilize this "feud" to boost her ratings.

Just a hunch.

"Dumber than a suitcase of rocks" in my view would describe any author dumb enough to put those words in an e-mail criticizing a co-worker.

Actually Cosby is not bright, but Olberman is as dumb as any human can come!!! Gotta add Chris Matthews to this list, but I'll give him a pass. Poor soul is hooked on the booze. He needs the dry-out tank courtesy of GE & NBC!!
And...his son, Howard Fineman, "The commentator that was never right about anything" is far from the sharpest knife in the drawer. Dan Abrams does not have much to work with. Actually MSNBC is pathetic!!! Good luck, and don't take any advice from your old man!!!

I used to go between MSNBC & FNC..

I did as well. I think went Matthews flew to the far left the rest of the station did too. MSNBC's anti-war/Bush bias became even more evident with David Gregory. I don't even bother with them anymore.

Doesn't the illustrious Senator Hagel the Amnesty King still have an enormous share in Diebold?

I agree. I think Rita is plenty intelligent. Oberman, OTOH, has never convinced me that he could do much more than read supplied talking points then add his own vicous spew to it. I will say about Rita, though, that I do not believe she has done as well on MSNBC as she did on Fox. I take that to be a statement about MSNBC's management vs. Fox's.

Olbermann will always be to me a slight funny sports reporter at KTLA, the 5th rated station in a 5 channel market.

Frankly, I don't know why any producer would put Rita Cosby on the air. As soon as I hear that voice I change the channel.

Keith, however, ranks even further down my list than Rita.

Olbermann's bridge-burning goes back at least to the 80s when he was sports guy at KTVU in LA.

A guy who has bounced around that much and is a feature for a network in trouble shouldn't act like such a jerk. He will probably need friends in the near future.

Yesterday Cosby retorted: "Keith got it wrong. I'm not that nice."

Heh. Good one Rita! I certainly side with Rita against Olbermann.

Now, I'm no fan of Rita, simply because I am not a fan of her style or her voice.

I like Rita. She puts a smile on my face even though I don't care about most of the stories she covers...and I love her sexy voice!

Rita needs to go on a diet.

No she doesn't. She looks like a good old fashioned American babe. I'm tired of the skinny sickly looking dingbats.

Yeah! Check out those giant, ham-hock legs of hers. She makes Hilary Rodman C. look like a broomstick!

I have an idea. MSNBC should become authentic. Rather than a cheap immitation, why not can Olbermann and hire Will Farrel and tell him to do his Ron Burgundy.

Countdown, with Ron Burgundy.

Good! I am genuinely glad she has fans because she deserves them. There should be lots of news choices for just that reason.

The same doesn't hold true, however, for Olbermann.
