PETA Protest
June 14, 2006 09:06 AM CDT
Around noon Tuesday there was an unusual sight in downtown Lafayette. On the corner of Jefferson and Congress, a woman painted like a tiger sat in a cage in protest. She says it's all for fair treatment of animals.
As PETA volunteer Sarah Harley gets ready to take her position, a crowd begins to gather, all to see the lady in the cage.
"PETA sometimes has to do shocking things to get attention and if you look around, you can tell this is bring a lot if attention. Now hopefully, less people will go to the circus this year."
People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals are protesting the Ringling brothers and Barnum and Bailey Circus that's coming to Lafayette next week.
Ringling Brothers admits their animals are chained during mealtime, bedtime and during transport. They say that's nothing out of the ordinary.
"Our tethering practices are fully consistant with USDA guidelines," says Ringling Brothers spokesman, Amy McWethy.
While people are looking and the cameras are snapping on the streets of Lafayette Tuesday, one person passing by feels we should concentrate on things closer to home.
"We have a much bigger issue with cockfighting here and the damage it does to our image."
Others say they get the point.
'
"Animals are put into small cages and that's cruel."
The woman in the cage says despite the 90 degree temperatures, her protest is for a good cause.
"It's worth every moment."
PETA
Old Indian word for "bad hunter".
People for the Eating of Tasty Animals
If she wants fewer people to go to the circus how are the owners supposed to pay for their feed? Transport costs? Maybe the circus should say 'Okay, we'll turn them loose in your back yard'. We'll see how she likes living with uncaged wild top-o-the-chain animals.
Bottom line...gratuitous female nudity always trumps politics for us sexist, chauvinistic pigs...
>;)
I think I would have just started tossing $1 bills and making jokes about "hairballs".
People who are so wrong usually do.....
God made animals out of meat for a reason...
First post for me. Will be doing a lot more when time permits.
I live not for from Norfolk, Virginia which unfortunatly is the "home" hq of PETA. You may have heard that Norfolk is in the "Tidewater" area of Virginia; thus, PETA around here stands for "P*ssants Embarassing the Tidewater Area".

Someone should've turned the sprinklers on right next to her. Even if there wasn't any grass around.
Heh heh. Now I might go the circus!
"PETA sometimes has to do shocking things to get attention and if you look around, you can tell this is bring a lot if attention. Now hopefully, less people will go to the circus this year."
Only clowns have to do shocking things to get attention. But in a free country, one has the right to make themselves a fool. God bless America.

LOL
Welcome to Free Republic. We look forward to your contribution.
PETA would do a lot for itself if it would do the following:
1. Stop doing its darndest to offend Christians by twisting Scripture to support its views.
2. Stop their own people from 'saving' animals from shelters only to kill them themselves and throw them away in dumpsters - in other words, stop being hypocrites.
3. Stop using dumb, juvenile tactics, billboards and stunts and put substantial, logical arguments out there.
4. Drop the liberal 'animal rights' wacko views and adopt 'animal welfare' mentality. Animal welfare folks like myself come from a biblical stewardship point of view, where animals are God's creatures and have value and can even be treated as family, but are best protected as property (pets). Animal rights folks see animals equal to people and fail the old 'burning building, baby and cat in the house, you can only save one, which one would you? - the one I can get to first' question. Animal welfare folks would say, baby first, and hopefully try for the animal on the way out!
