olive oil besides being expensive when compared to the boxed commercial cooking oils, has too low a smoke point when compared to other cooking oils to be used for relatively high temperature cooking. Peanut oil is very good but too many people have peanut allergies and it too is expensive.

My whole family has only used olive oil for cooking. I've never seen or experienced what this smoke point is that you are referring to.
