A doctor and a consumer group have sued KFC in an effort to stop the chicken chain from cooking with high-fat partially hydrogenated oil.
Dr. Arthur Hoyte, a retired physician from Rockville, Md., and the Center for Science in the Public Interest, want a judge to order Kentucky Fried Chicken to use other types of cooking oils or make sure customers know about trans fat content immediately before they make a purchase.
KFC spokeswoman Laurie Schalow called the lawsuit frivolous and said the company will fight it in court. Schalow said KFC is looking at using other types of oil for cooking, but it is committed to maintaining "KFC's unique taste and flavor."
KFC provides nutrition and fat information to consumers online and in restaurants, Schalow said.
"We have for a very long time," she said.
Michael Jacobsen, the executive director of the Center for Science in the Public Interest, said Louisville-based KFC parent company Yum Brands Inc. knows that other, healthier cooking products are available.
"KFC knows this, yet it recklessly puts its customers at risk of a Kentucky Fried Coronary," Jacobsen said.

"...want a judge to order Kentucky Fried Chicken to use other types of cooking oils..."
Enemies of the free market and individual liberty.
"Well....unfortunatly I am paying for other peoples heart attacks. I wish people were forced to exercise and eat well...our health insurance would be cheaper."
Fascism, the best answer to socialism! It never fails to amaze me to see these solutions posted by FReepers.
This suit is just about as sick and sad as it gets. This "doctor" and the members of this consumer group need to grow up and mind their own business. I loathe and despise these types.
I think everyone knows what I mean ....instead I get called names. Did your parents ever force you to eat your vegetables?
So you consider the government has a legitimate roll to act as "parents?" Isn't that the definition of nannystatism?
How would moving to China or North Korea help? They force you to eat right and exercise? Did your parents ever force you to go outside and play or eat your vegetables? HORRID!!! That is what the topic is about....or are you going to 'lead' this down another path just to make yourself feel better?
I wish 'parents' today were smart enough to teach their children well. Where have I heard that before.
Since they aren't "smart enough to teach their children well" it is a legitimate roll of the government to take over that responsibility?
Negative...isn't that obvious to you? Haven't you noticed Gov't is the business of encouraging and promoting us to be fat, dumb and happy. That is the main role of the Teacher's Union.
From your own page...makes sense.
BTW---do you consider teachers union 'government'?
"Negative...isn't that obvious to you?"
No, the article is about a group soliciting a judge to infringe on the ability of a restaurant to decide to serve their patrons in a certain manner, and allow the patrons to make their own decision to remain patrons or find an alternative.
You commented that you wished everyone were forced to eat well and exercise. It isn't to far of a stretch to assume you were supportive of the CSPI efforts to get the judge to dictate to private individuals specific actions. You made that comment in the context of the cost imposed on society as a result of an unhealthy eating experience.
As a result, it is reasonable to infer that your solution to socialism (health care) is fascism (judicial dictation of personal activities).
So no, it was not obvious that you were a supporter of private property, individual liberty or the right of private people to live their lives free from government interference.
If the teachers didn't like their union....they would of rejected it. Don't let them fool you....
Fudgepacking.
Have. They would "have" rejected it.
Keith! Pants! NOW!
That boy's head his got eets' own weather seesten.
One of my favorite movies.
We had the same thought! (But you were much quicker). See my #75.
Must be for real. I've been wondering the same thing for a couple years now. I don't like the new recipe as well as I remember liking the old recipe in the 60's and 70's. They probably used lard for frying. Talk about giving people a coronary, if they used lard today, Michael Jacobsen's head would simultaneously explode!
Erps. Meant to say "spontaneously".
