Today our courageous and intrepid Commander in Chief and Leader of the Free World......a world freer because of his courage and leadership, made a surprise visit to Baghdad. It was his second visit to Iraq, the first being made at Thanksgiving in 2003, and not announced until he had already departed Iraq. This trip was different. Air Force One landed at Baghdad airport and the President with a handful of reporters, and his Press Secretary, Tony Snow took a Black Hawk helicopter into the Green Zone.
He met with new Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki, who was informed only shortly before the Presidential visit, and they met together with the newly formed Iraqi Cabinet in a video conference with the President's Cabinet who were gathered at Camp David, Maryland in a remarkable moment in history. He also met with Iraq's President Jalal Talabani during a private meeting to discuss Iraq at the U.S. Embassy.
The President then spoke to military personnel and Embassy personnel at the U.S. Embassy, thanking the troops, and giving a moving speech about the noble mission in Iraq. He was deeply emotional as he discussed their sacrifice and their accomplishment, and the pride that Americans have in them, as well as the amazing progress in the newly sovereign Iraq.
First Lady Laura appeared today at a fundraiser for Pennsylvania Senator Rick Santorum while her husband was 'away.' She spoke there of her pride in her husband. She also appeared at a fundraiser for New Jersey's Tom Kean.
Here are the President's comments during video conference
And here are the pool reports from Drudge...........some good reads...............right HERE
The President is, as I type this, on his way home. Dear Lord, please continue to protect our brave, strong President as he leads this nation through perilous times. Keep him close to Your side, we pray!
Enjoy your trip to Sanity Island on the Daily Dose. It has NEVER been a better day to be a BUSHBOT!!
I wonder if anyone here can direct me to video of the President's comments to the troops today.
Thanks.
I already have the DVD recorder locked and loaded :-)
For some reason my screen is getting a little blurry when I look at the pics of W with the troops.
Welcome back, Theresa.
Better than that Wolfstar, I believe Kean has a real chance to beat Menendez in November.
C-Span2 in 10 minutes
I'll be back later.....
Thank you ALL!!
Weepy, but the good weepy.
What a grand day for our POTUS, our brave troops and for the good people of Iraq.
Our troops love him and he loves them.
Their faces and outstretched arms say it all.
I have to guess - this on final approach to Baghdad International?
President seems to be enjoying himself, eh?
See my post at #117!
Nice pics of troops with the prez. Can't imagine a president Gore or JFnK getting that sort of support from the troops. GWB owns the loyalty of the military.
You get my vote Dan! Excellent side-by-side!

thank you
Yes!! (Even though the pictures of him are very funny!) I was so happy that he got to go. I only wish that we would be able to hear him talk about it. He is such a great communicator--I would love to hear his report!

I knew you'd be ready! [Unfortunately, I don't think C-Span plans to re-broadcast the President's speech to his troops -- figures!]
I'm off for my walk (the VCR is set to record)!
Deb, thanks for the link to the video of GWB's remarks to the troops. Without it, I would have missed the one event I most wanted to see today.
What wonderful shots of the VP, Rummy and Condi.
David Schuster on MSNBC now saying his "guarantee" that Rove would be indicted was "fake but accurate".
LOL!!!! This loon says ALL THE LAWYERS except Rove's lawyer agreed with him.
Totally hilarious and a joy to watch.....
What a great picture. Rumsfeld with his thumb in the air -- that will send the Democrats over the edge.
