Today our courageous and intrepid Commander in Chief and Leader of the Free World......a world freer because of his courage and leadership, made a surprise visit to Baghdad. It was his second visit to Iraq, the first being made at Thanksgiving in 2003, and not announced until he had already departed Iraq. This trip was different. Air Force One landed at Baghdad airport and the President with a handful of reporters, and his Press Secretary, Tony Snow took a Black Hawk helicopter into the Green Zone.
He met with new Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki, who was informed only shortly before the Presidential visit, and they met together with the newly formed Iraqi Cabinet in a video conference with the President's Cabinet who were gathered at Camp David, Maryland in a remarkable moment in history. He also met with Iraq's President Jalal Talabani during a private meeting to discuss Iraq at the U.S. Embassy.
The President then spoke to military personnel and Embassy personnel at the U.S. Embassy, thanking the troops, and giving a moving speech about the noble mission in Iraq. He was deeply emotional as he discussed their sacrifice and their accomplishment, and the pride that Americans have in them, as well as the amazing progress in the newly sovereign Iraq.
First Lady Laura appeared today at a fundraiser for Pennsylvania Senator Rick Santorum while her husband was 'away.' She spoke there of her pride in her husband. She also appeared at a fundraiser for New Jersey's Tom Kean.
Here are the President's comments during video conference
And here are the pool reports from Drudge...........some good reads...............right HERE
The President is, as I type this, on his way home. Dear Lord, please continue to protect our brave, strong President as he leads this nation through perilous times. Keep him close to Your side, we pray!
Enjoy your trip to Sanity Island on the Daily Dose. It has NEVER been a better day to be a BUSHBOT!!
Well said, Wolfstar!
OhioWfan, the smiling faces of the troops as they look up to the CIC is a reflection of President Bush's respect for them.
Thank you for these historic images.
Thank you ohiowfan. Fabulous photos, wonderful news today for the administration and for Americans. This was truly a great day.
By the way, anonymoussierra posted a wonderful set of photos of the President's journey today as well. Sara, would you want to post the link to it?
Oh, I have been waiting for THIS dose!
Thank you!
The President's standing is improving. If he wants a final push, he should consider dropping real or tacit amnesty as part of his speeches. Indeed, he could give a one-two punch to his critics by:(1)Closing down the border; (2)And, delaying anything else till after the November elections.
It is crucial that (1)occurs. IMHO immigration is the issue damaging the President more than Iraq. By modifying his stand he will also take the fight to the RATS who are pandering to the illegals.
Oh you big baby. (Good thing you can't actually see me.)
Oh no, KEEP yours --- I just think she deserves one too!
Aren't you just the sweetest thing! What a great day!!
Hi, Ohio! Hi everybody!
Looking forward to a great dose about President Bush's visit to Baghdad today.
I've been reading all the Karl Rove threads, and LMFO. Lucy and the football again for those on the left who were salivating for an indictment. Lots of fun to read!
(Been away awhile, problems w/my wrists and all that stuff, but I'm baaaaaack....)
Think the team is a little pleased? Condi doesn't look it in this one, but in some of the others she is beaming like the VP.
Thank you Mike....Mike has been in a great mood all day too, he told me earlier that he is proud that he was able to have played a part in all this......now Jonathan will have the same opportunity...

BUMP<> BUMP<> BUMP.
You are so right!
Yes!
If I were President, I'd get checked out for right seat in AF-1, and be up front every time it took off or landed. He is CIC, after all, and he's a pilot from way back.

Well put.
Is that a garment bag someone is carrying? Seems so funny!

Wow! What an excellent post and thread. Today was a BANNER DAY for the President and the Country!
It takes guts, big time. And our president has them in spades. Thank goodness. He's better than we deserve in this country.
