In the controversy over Ann Coulter's comments about the group of 9/11 widows, there is one critical question, from the point of view of ensuring standards of accuracy in the media. How does Coulter know it to be true that, "I've never seen people enjoying their husbands' deaths so much." There is no evidence whatsoever that those women enjoyed their husbands' deaths, and Coulter offers none. The only "evidence" for this preposterous and hurtful claim is that the women became activists and sought the media spotlight and took a political position at odds with that of Coulter. But what does that prove?

en·joy Pronunciation Key (n-joi)
v. en·joyed, en·joy·ing, en·joys
v. tr.
1. To receive pleasure or satisfaction from.
2. To have the use or benefit of: enjoys good health.

I believe they are enjoying the vanity fair and other MSM coverage of them and their new found celebrity status.

I think Ann's point that the leftie/Libs hide behind
supposedly unassailable victim figures of grief and bereavement
wherever and whenever they can.
It's a long list , the examples are many.
They all point towards subversion of America in a time of War
and I for one am very glad Ann is loudly calling them on this.
It's interesting watching them all whine , moan and complain.
Just like earthworms wriggle when the rock is lifted and they are exposed to direct sunlight.

<Ann Coulter is just too right-on even for many conservatives who are soooo afraid of being called "mean spirited". Well, I'm sorry, but here's one conservative whose give-a-damn is just flat busted, to steal a phrase.

Because she saw what she saw, and she is telling us what she saw?

What an absolutely assinine premise. The assertion that "I've never seen..." necessarily implies a subjective point of view. In other words, to her eyes these four women appear to be enjoying the benefits of their husbands' deaths. There is nothing to prove. It is solely Ann's interpretation. The author is too stupid to comprehend that. Now, if Ann had said, "These women are enjoying their husbands' deaths," then one could reasonably demand proof. Ann, however, deliberately couches her statements in the language of subjective opinion.

This author is making a bumbling effort to discredit Ann logically and, like most Lefties, fails miserably because hee doesn't even understand the concept of logic.

This is a fair criticism. Ann Coulter engages in way to much ad hominem. She doesn't defend conservatism; she attacks liberals. The way she's doing it is pretty low-brow, too. Tactically, she sounds exactly like the venomous & the deranged on any kook-fringe leftist website; if she fights fire with fire here, she'll sound (and does) as bad and as crazy as they do. She hates liberals more than she loves Conservatism. And that's the rub: her real motivation is hatred (for them), and it shows.

Her discourse is loaded with sarcasm. It's as though she hears her own laugh track inside her head whenever she thinks she's really laid someone out in the sophomoric way she does. She thinks she's really funny. More often then not, she looks extraordinarily immature.

Too bad she doesn't grow up a little. She could be a lot more effective if she'd knock off this irresistability she has to be outlandish. The more cute she thinks she is when she's landing the verbal blows on others, the more it becomes clear she's a one note symphony. Her whole premise is: "I HATE LIBERALS". OK. We get it. Enough already.

To her credit: She has more Stones AND Brains than Sean Hannity. But she has nowhere near the intellectual firepower or communication skill of Rush Limbaugh. She could use more of the latter and less of the former.

Since some people seem to not want to understand what 'enjoy' means...

Enjoy: To have the use of; benefit from; have as one's lot: "at one time the white elephant enjoyed immense symbolic importance in the East" (Richard Carrignton). The American Heritage Dictionary.

I don't know what emotions these women in question have had, do have or will have, but it's pretty clear (unless one doesn't want to see) that they have very much benefited from i.e. enjoyed their situations. Coulter is perfectly correct.

I think you all are missing her point entirely!

It's not what she said....

..Dems... liberals and others are going ape crazy because she said it. Period.

She's exposing their little game...

...they are putting Murtha, the Jersey Girls and Sheehan in the vanguard with the DemLibs 'talking points'....

...THEY get away with calling President Bush every vile name in the book or calling our military even more vile stuff (Murtha) BECAUSE they are....military veteran, 9/11 widows, and grieving mom.

Ann's point ....and she does have one...is no one is to refute/doubt/disagree with these shrill shields.

But the minute Ann opens her mouth, outrageous though her adjectives are, she is told to 'kill herself'...or boycott her book, or 'make her shut up'

There is, as we already know, a double standard, and she is trying to expose it!

"enjoying" as in "benefiting from"

yea enjoying their deaths was pretty inaccurate.

Enjoying the fruit that their deaths have provided is probally more accurate.

I am going to repeat what I have stated in other posts. Ann has successfully made the point that behavior of the Jersey Girls or Cindy Sheehan no matter any circumstance could never be condemned due to their bereavement status while the democrats inappropriately use political correctness as a tool to advance their politics via grieving agenda driven opportunism.

I also believe The Jersey Girls and Cindy Sheehan are enjoying their so called untouchable status as a result of their bereavement.

Here she states, "I've never seen...". This sounds like an observation on her part. This is not "claiming to have inside knowledge of the personal psychology of this group of women", as preposterously purported by this Kincaid character. She states this is what it looks like to her, and that's what she put down on paper.

The Left is trying mightily to push her words into the area of "hate speech", thereby making her guilty of a "hate crime". They should pursue this right after they do so with Schumers' "bullet to the head" thing. Not before.

In journalism, facts and truth are supposed to matter.

This, from another obvious graduate of the Dan Rather School of Journalism!

If nothing else, these guys do have entertainment value!

Actually Ann supplies ample evidence that the Jersey Girls are enjoying their husband's death. The problem is that people do not understand English, let alone politics.

Let's say my wife died and I got a big life insurance pay-out. Since the kids are grown, I take the money and travel the world. I start living an opulent life style. I even make a few TV spots on life styles of the Rich and Famous. Would it not be fair to say I am “enjoying my wife’s death”? Certainty! If fact some of my wife’s family and friends may even criticize me for not paying more reverence to her death and instead spending the money willy-nilly.

Ann gives ample evidence in her book that the Jersey Girl’s are enjoying their husband’s death form the perspective that they have clearly taken advantage of the death to advance their politics and enrich their lives.

Furthermore, Ann is not the first to take a shot at the celebrity hood of the 911 widows. I would refer you to Law and Order, Season 15, episode 327. A clear shot at the 911 millionaires. Law and order is not a bastion of conservative thought.

Ann Coulter does the same job as Al Franken but for the opposing team. They're both mean and obnoxious insult-mongers and perpetrators of lowbrow propaganda.

It was a little over the top, but not by much -- and certainly not nearly as over the top as the backlash against her here, there and everywhere.

The fact remains that there is something extremely distasteful to say the least about how the "Jersey Girls" are conducting themselves, a la Cindy Sheehan, which is why I say Coulter's comment is at worst just a near-miss. They are flies buzzing around the remains at Ground Zero.

The key word in the phrase is "enjoying" which is the present tense. She is not saying that they "enjoyed" their husbands' deaths but that they are enjoying it. In other words, now that the grief has passed they are relishing in their new found celebrity. In that sense they are truly "enjoying" the deaths of their husbands.

But for the fact that their husbands had died, these women would be nobodies. But since they are victim, they are beyond criticism. They are untouchables inasmuch as anyone finding fault with their motives is automatically seen as being grossly insensitive.

Ann Coulter was dead right on the money. The fact that this sentence has brought out the wolves in the MSM is proof positive that Ann Coulter was right as rain in her observation. The fact that so many conservatives have fallen for the propaganda being put out by the MSM is proof positive that they still weild a tremendous influence over public opinion.

"I've never seen people enjoying their husbands' deaths so much."

Are these women not doing what they want to do? IIRC there has been criticism of these women by other of the 9/11 bereaved.
