(MONONGAHELA, June 12) – Washington County Commissioner and Pennsylvania 12th district Republican Congressional nominee Diana Irey – reacting to an article in yesterday’s Washington Post regarding the alleged "massacre" at Haditha, and U.S. Rep. Jack Murtha’s continued insistence on prejudging Marines before any charges are filed – today released the following statement:
"Jack Murtha was wrong to prejudge the Marines of Kilo Company, the First of the Third, for their actions in Haditha last November 19. And now the Marines under investigation are saying so directly.
"For the first time since allegations were made against his unit, the senior enlisted Marine present at Haditha – Staff Sgt. Frank D. Wuterich – is speaking up, through his attorney.
"Yesterday, Neal A. Puckett – the lawyer for Sgt. Wuterich – spoke for the first time on the record. He denied that Sgt. Wuterich’s unit deliberately killed any innocent Iraqi civilians, said U.S. troops followed the military rules of engagement, and denied that the unit deliberately tried to cover up the deaths.
"Moreover, according to this report in the Washington Post, attorneys for two other Marines currently being investigated say that Sgt. Wuterich’s account tracks with what the other Marines in the unit are saying.
"Jack Murtha was wrong to prejudge a case that may or may not be brought against U.S. armed forces. He was wrong to act as prosecutor, judge, and jury before any charges have been filed, before any court martial has been convened, before any Marine has been convicted.
"Jack Murtha, of all people, should understand and appreciate the presumption of innocence until guilt is proven.
"His reckless disregard for due process is just one more reason he needs to be retired from active duty in the Congress. It’s time for a change."

Murtha's an idiot. He jumped the gun before the investigation was complete. He can forget getting elected to house leadership now.

Great press release. I love it how she just states the facts, doesn't exaggerate and literally rips him. He won't be able to counter any of it because it's all true.
Also noticed he's been really quiet the last 2 or 3 days, maybe someone finally told him to shut his mouth. I hope he doesn't though, when he opens it he just gets in deeper.

When told that US Marines shot little girls in the head in cold blood, what was your response?
Did you believe it? Did you reject it as impossible? I did. A lot of things can happen in the heat of combat. They were accused of monstrous things, however, that no one would do, things so awful that only a muslim terrorist would do them. Precisely, it turns out, the kind of people making up these charges.
Murtha's response was to shout it to the world as settled truth. Did he really believe it? Does he really believe marines shoot little girls in the head in cold blood? Really?
Murtha is a disgrace. He is a disgrace to his seat, Pennsylvania is itself disgraced to have put such a man in high office. He has to go.
