RENO, Nev. (AP) — A judge has been shot at a courthouse in Reno, a police spokesman says.

The ONLY time violence against someone is justified is if it's in self defense, period. Some people on that board definitely hated the judge. That's all I meant.

Whether the judge is a jerk or not, he does not deserve any physical harm for doing his job. Mack, if he did it, should be behind bars forever.

I can't say I'm surprised by this. Judge Weller isn't all that rare a bird and I espect a lot of people to go hunting for his type in the future.

Anybody who's thinking it's just a great idea (or even excusable, or even thinkable) for somebody who has been handed a raw deal by the courts to go gunning for the judge . . .

I've lived in a country where that sort of thing happens. It's called Haiti. It might as well be Hell.

There are screwups in the States, and there are bad judges, and people do get hurt by them. No system is perfect. But the system here is about as good as it gets.

It is also a very fragile and delicate system, depending on the social compact. Once you start acknowledging in any way that offing a judge might be acceptable, you are leading the way to anarchy. And in an anarchic state, there is always somebody stronger, more violent, and better armed than you, and they will take your stuff, rape your wife, and butcher your children without a second thought.

I've been there. Don't go there. You won't like it.

The kids are safe. The murder victim found yesterday is the ex-wife, Charla. He's still at large, possibly driving a rental car. They shut down the Reno airport yesterday when the vehicle was spotted in the airport parking garage. Nothing was found.

During a news conference in Reno this morning, police named 45-year-old Darren Mack as a suspect in the murder of his estranged wife, Charla, and in the shooting of Judge Chuck Weller (shown above). Warrants have been issued for Mack's arrest. If arrested, Mack will face one open count of murder with a deadly weapon. The charge carries the potential of the death penalty, according to the district attorney.

While investigating the judge's shooting, police looked as list of cases Weller had handled and went to an apartment in the 9900 block of Wilbur May Parkway in Reno. It was there they discovered the body that has been positively identified as that of Mack's estranged wife, Charla. Her body was found in the garage of her home. She had suffered multiple, traumatic injuries, investigators said. Police did not say whether Charla Mack was killed before or after Weller was shot.

According to information obtained by News10, Mack was going through divorce proceedings and was in Weller's court on May 24 regarding a custody hearing. He and his estranged wife have three children. The children are safe and staying with relatives. ..."

I do not think gunning for a judge is excusable, my heart feeling is that I wish him well away as a fugitive, with a suitcase full of diamonds from his business on a desert Island somewhere. I do not subscribe to the present culture which destroys fathers in court, and drives them crazy. I do not subscribe to judge gunning either. I just hope he is never caught as an emotional feeling.Many men who have been unjustly treated in family court feel this way and are not saying so.

Probably ought to be on the *Drega list*, though it's a possible indicator of likely future additional CWII activity- and an indication of a growing belief that if you want justice instead of *administration of the law,* you'll have to take care of it yourself. It's hardly surprising that some folks will take the law into their own hands when it's been dumped into the street, ignored by those who think that they ARE the law- and are above it.

Well I guess it depends what you consider self defense. If self defense can only consist of repulsing an in progress attack, then this does not meet the test. However, for instance, if you take the War in Iraq, it wasn't so much that Americans were going to die if we didn't off him, it was that all things considered he was a medium to long term threat. Fails your self defense definition though.

And so does the American revolution. The "shot heard round the world" was supposedly not fired by a British soldier.

Taxing you off your land, passing evil laws, enforcing evil laws ... or, in this case destroying a third generation business, taking your kids away from you, your house away from you, your livelyhood away from you, your accumulated wealth away from you ...

I think a lot of these calls are "grey" and not libertarian black and white.

The only way I could see it happening would be if there was a sniper in much higher elevation, looking down into the window; the first round dropping the judge onto his back on the floor, leaving him visible through the window.
