Investigators said Darren Roy Mack, a suspect in a killing reported at a Reno apartment building was a "person of interest" in the shooting at the courthouse earlier in the day

Not the guy. Middle name isn't Wayne...

Thanks for all the great inside skinny!!

More:

It appears that they've found two of the getaway vehicles--his mother's Cherokee and a Hummer. They're looking for a Silver Ford Explorer.

They won't release the name of the vic they found at the other end of town, but they say the murder victim is related to Mack, so Mrs. randog and I are assuming it's the ex. The apartment complex is pretty upscale.

In high school, the Macks were part of the "elite", i.e. they had money. No matter--a bum deal in divorce court can enrage a rich man just as much as a poor man.

Assumption: Darren got taken to the cleaners in divorce court and he's going out in a blaze of glory.

Outside Prediction: they'll find him at the summer house at Tahoe/Donner.

Believe me, jerks come in both sexes.

Believe me I know. My ex's previous ex walked out on her when she was 6 months preggers with the girl who would some day become my daughter. Stole her VW van, wiped out the little they had set aside for the kid-to-be's college education and simply vanished.

To the best of our knowledge he doesn't even know he sired a daughter, nor how well she's turned out, and I, her FATHER, will proudly attend her High School Graduation tomorrow.

His loss.

Scumbag.

This will probably end in a suicide. I think most dads do get treated shabbily in family court, but no matter how much guys are pushed, yall don't go around shooting judges.

Yup, if I were the wife's lawyer I would be laying VERY low.

We had a similar situation here locally awhile ago, except it was the woman who was not wound too tight and wound up going postal. The police alerted the superior court judge and the appeals judges who had affirmed the case . . . but they caught her before she killed anybody else. Unfortunately she managed to kill several members of her family first . . .

Lib or Conservative?

Should it matter???

Not particularly, but when things such as this happen, I'd rather it be a lib who's more prone to not doing what they can to reduce this type of stuff in the first place. Why should a proponent of harsh penalties for felons, particularly violent ones, yet that's fighting an uphill battle so to speak in a nation where laws are relatively lenient towards these criminals be the victim???

So I'll turn the question around then. Why not the lib rather than the conservative???

I'd prefer neither, but the person that's more "vigilant" in ensuring that these things don't happen, and the one that takes more effective action in ensuring that should certainly be the last of the two to have it happen to.

Which, of course, means it's perfectly reasonable to treat the responsible ones who love and want to see their children, and who make all the child support and alimony payments no better than the worst pond scum a woman ever chose to marry.

Give me a break! Where on earth did I ever say that. I am married to a wonderful man who helped me raise those three beautiful children (after their father left them.) He supported them with his time, energy, income and most importantly, love.

I respect men, and I'm sorry for every one of them that gets used and abused by a heartless, no-good, man eater. I am so sorry, if you ever hooked up with one. You don't deserve to be taken advantage of by a woman, and certainly NOT by the courts! (I don't think it's right that you would assume I felt otherwise.)

What's weird about this is how the police found the "body" (they won't release any info about the murder vic). One would assume that someone at the apartment complex heard a commotion, fight, gunshot, and called the police. But that wasn't the case--the police went to the apartment on their own suspicions and found the body. Which begs the question: how did they know Darren Mack was involved?

They said they went through Judge Weller's docket and found the Mack divorce case, but so what? I'm sure there were a lot of divorce cases on the docket--he is a family court judge.

Personally, I think Darren told someone that he was going to "get even" after the divorce trial, did the do, and that person called the cops to finger him.

The local news is over now--I'll listen to the radio and see if I can catch any tidbits. Mrs. randog and I thought about going downtown, but decided that watching cops/sheriffs standing around looking important wasn't much fun.

What's your take on whether the fellow is already dead by his own hand . . . or whether he intends on "suicide by cop"?

Was he kind of an odd bird to begin with?
