Since Virginia has open primaries, ANY REGISTERED VOTER can vote in ANY primary.
As a conservative, I plan to hold my nose and vote in the Democrat primary tomorrow, Tues. June 13.
Jim Webb and Harris Miller are running for the Democrat nomination for US Senate to oppose George Allen. Miller is the more liberal, Webb is a former Reagan official and military man.
The Democrats, desparate for a win, seem to be pushing Webb in many parts of VA.
I plan to VOTE FOR MILLER and encourage all to do the same, as he is the weakest opponent to George Allen.
The Democrat party in VA has fought against party-only primaries for year, because they want to mess with Republican elections.
Let's show them that open primaries are indeed a double-edged sword.
A few days ago you posted a campaign ad here to collect money for the Webb campaign.
Now you are asking people to vote for Miller, they are both RATS.
I think I would pass on taking your advice on anything to do with voting.
I'm hoping Webb wins, so in November we can have ANOTHER election proving that the anti-war position is NOT supported by voters.
If we can get the DNC to waste their money here in Virginia trying to get a Republican elected as a democrat, that's less money they have to use elsewhere.
And Allen defeating Webb will look better for him going into 2008 than Allen defeating Miller.
Anyway, I beginning to wonder if I really want Allen to be president -- I hate the idea that, after working hard to elect a republican for the seat in 2007, that by 2009 it will be held by a democrat appointed by the democrat governor, even if we get a chance to reverse that in a special election. With Warner retiring in 2008 we will have already used our best statewide republican candidate available (I hope) to retain that seat, finding another to win an election against a democrat incumbent would be annoying.
Especially since I'm betting it would be Mark Warner, a very popular democrat in this state who isn't running right now for 2006 OR 2008 seats because of his run for president, but obviously would be available for appointment if Allen won the presidency.
Gopher Broke has done a great service in keeping us informed on what is happening in the Dem. primary.
He's not advertising ~for~ them. He's informing us ~about~ them.
"He's not advertising ~for~ them. He's informing us ~about~ them."
OK, but how do you explain posting an article that was nothing but a campaign ad for Webb?
All it said was Send Webb $100, and gopher made no comments when it was posted. I think he might have commented to someone how he liked the fact that Webb was pro life.
The thread didn't last long before it was pulled.
I guess after 6 years of seeing him post, I'm not too inclined to suspect him of trollishness.
But, but, I got a gen-u-ine telephone call from COOTER. And he said to vote for Webb, because he's a gen-u-ine war hero, or somethin'.
ok. fine.
What would be nice also if the GOP put someone up that can be elected.
Your comment is confusing me - or maybe I'm just having a senior moment.
Are you implying that Allen can't win this election?
Good grief, is he still around?
Those license plates are hilarious.
"Kookguv" is my fav.
He can but they have not been very good at the governor spot lately.
Beagle8u, I think you have me wrong. My post about Webb has not been erased, see http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1646406/posts
And as it says, I am just sharing what the Webb campaign is sending out....ie, know thy enemy.
We all have the same goal, re-elect Allen to the Senate. I just think it may be a bit easier if we get the WEAKEST candidate, Miller, as his opponent.
Are you new to FR or the VA board?
Perhaps you should look at his posts more carefully before you make such a sweeping generalization.
There are plenty of people who post emails, etc. from the opposition - not just GB. Some of us appreciate their efforts.
Sigh. True.
But since we were talking about the Senator slot, I got confused by your comment. Probably just me having one of those days.
email from John Kerry...in case you need another reason to vote for MILLER:
Dear Stuck on Stupid,
Jim Webb understands what it means to serve and sacrifice for our country. Time and time again he has answered the call. I ask you to join me in supporting Jim Webb by voting for him in tomorrow's United States Senate primary election in Virginia.
I am proud to endorse Jim in this primary. He is a decorated Marine and former Secretary of the Navy, a leader of strength and character who can fight and win tough campaigns against challenging odds. I know that he will serve in the Senate with the same kind of character and leadership he has shown throughout his career, and I know he has what it takes to beat George Allen.
I'll be joining Jim this afternoon in Virginia for a final rally before tomorrow's election. I hope you will do everything you can to get out the vote for Jim in your community.
Jim Webb will help the Democrats bring change to Washington, and he will make you proud as your next Senator. But he needs your vote on Tuesday to make that happen.
Here are three easy ways you can help Jim Webb win tomorrow's primary:
Make time tomorrow to go to the polls and cast a vote for Jim Webb. Polls open at 6:00 a.m. and close at 7:00 p.m. To find your polling place, call 804-864-8901 or visit this page.
Remind your friends about the importance of this election and get them out to the polls too. Give them a ride or arrange a car pool.
Forward this email to ten friends, neighbors, and co-workers and follow up with a phone call reminding them to vote on Tuesday.
Every vote counts. Please help Jim Webb by coming out to the polls for him tomorrow, Tuesday June 13th.
Thank you,
John Kerry
P.S. Turnout is critical in this election. Jim Webb can beat George Allen this fall but he needs your vote. Cast your vote for Jim Webb tomorrow!
