The Language of God, to be published in September, will reopen the age-old debate about the relationship between science and faith.

And I thought it was closed.

claims there is a rational basis for a creator

Looking in all the wrong places, trying to make the proof public. You either personally and privately know or you don't.

My Pastor insists that because the Bible does not say that God used evolution as a "tool," that proves he did not.

Your Pastor has some interesting opinions.

Lots of scientists become believers once they understand the precision and complexity of creation, from a galaxy to a cell.

And it also reinforces for many scientists that religion and evolution are not necessarily mutually exclusive.

Then this highly hypothetical "God" person isn't a scientist.

Following the thread that led up to that makes one wonder. It's like someone said that Michael Jordan was the ultimate playground basketball dude and, since Jordan is so much more than that, it is OK to characterize their misstatement as proof that Michael Jordan doesn't exist, becaue he obviously ain't no playground player.

It's more common for scientists to already be believers.

Some who don't start out as believers are impressed by how little is known and how little they can know.

> So does the bible.. except in more detail with more interesting characters and a believable plot..

Huh. I drew exactly the opposite conclusion. The characters are astonishingly one-dimensional on the whole, the details are almost wholly lacking, and the plot, what little there is of one, if full of holes, deus ex machina, and is basically unrealistic, without the benefit of having really clever fantasy elements like "Lord of the Rings."

Interesting conclusion you drew there. Totally skew to the arguements leading up to it.

I do not agree that the physical body of man is "in God's Image".

Neither do I, TXnMA.

Note that in Genesis 2:7, man is created in "two steps": creation from the dust of the earth (to which physical evolution may well apply); and then at some (unspecified) later time, God "breathed" the breath of Life into man. It was not until the latter was accomplished that man became fully human.

In short, evolution applies to the physical (or as hosepipe puts it, to "the donkey"); it does not apply to the human soul, which is eternal because the Pneuma of God. It is the soul, not the donkey, that is made in the image of God.

Or at least, that's how I think about this issue, FWIW. Thanks for writing, TXnMA!

You seem to have ignored my quotes.. Clancy/Chesterton..

The bible is really only an advertisement(a flyer) anyway..
There is far more going on than mere reading..
The bible just contains the address and phone number of God..
And some sales pitches.... be there or be square..

The get in on the "SALE" you must SHOW UP..
The Universal Yard Sale is happening NOW..

I do not agree that the physical body of man is "in God's Image".

God is Spirit. It is only Man's spirit/soul that is "in the image and likeness of God".

When was the last time you saw a human whose body looked like a burning bush -- or a pillar of smoke -- or a pillar of fire -- or a being with feathered wings.-- or...?

Exodus 33:11 (KJV):

And the LORD spake unto Moses face to face, as a man speaketh unto his friend. And he turned again into the camp: but his servant Joshua, the son of Nun, a young man, departed not out of the tabernacle.

What, specifically, did he write that is full of it?

He wrote that Christians have to keep their religion under wraps lest they be persecuted by the atheistic science establishment.

That's arrant nonsense.

I understand where you are coming from, but I get the impression that he believes God created the world he studies, and to learn more brings him closer to God.

A surprising number of scientists have minds broad enough to embrace both science and faith in God without any fear of any of their beliefs being in contradiction.

I wonder how much pre-release publicity this book will get, since it's PRO Christian instead of anti?
