Flag Day and National Flag Week, 2006
To commemorate the adoption of our flag, the Congress, by joint resolution approved August 3, 1949, as amended (63 Stat. 492), designated June 14 of each year as "Flag Day" and requested that the President issue an annual proclamation calling for its observance and for the display of the flag of the United States on all Federal Government buildings. The Congress also requested, by joint resolution approved June 9, 1966, as amended (80 Stat. 194), that the President issue annually a proclamation designating the week in which June 14 occurs as "National Flag Week" and calling upon all citizens of the United States to display the flag during that week.

Also the birthday of the US Army.
One has to wonder, if a similar resolution were offered today, how many Senate Democrats (and RINOs) would vote against it (or at least threaten a filibuster).
Now that you mention it:

I plan to pull out my 48 star flag and fly it, it is a big one, about 8' long. millions were made and today it is hard to find one.
Go to this website and listen to Red Skelton's recitation of the Pledge of Allegiance, listen to the very last line, how insightful Red Skeleton was back in 1969.

Old Glory will proudly be flying in front of my house this week.
I'll be flying our USA flag all week, while many others on the Range here will be flying their various western European flags.
Geez, ours had been up since Memorial Day. Where have you been?
We fly an American Flag out in front of the house, and one in the back of the house, all year long...they are both medium sized flags...
But on certain holidays, we bring out a really big flag, that my husbands dad bought when my husband was just a child...I thought maybe it had only 48 stars, but nope, we counted, and its got 50 stars...so, I do think, that you are indeed lucky to have the flag with just 48stars...
We just recently bought a new flag for the backyard, as the one that was up, was beginning to look worn...so we took it down, and put the newer one up...and then we drove over to a local American Legion, and they have a mail box drop out front, where one can return old, or faded, or threadworn flags, and they will dispose of them properly...
You're a Grand Old Flag
by George M. Cohan
You're a grand old flag,
You're a high flying flag
And forever in peace may you wave.
You're the emblem of
The land I love.
The home of the free and the brave.
Ev'ry heart beats true
'neath the Red, White and Blue,
Where there's never a boast or brag.
Should auld acquaintance be forgot,
Keep your eye on the grand old flag.

Great Red Skelton post. His last comment, about the words "under God" in the Pledge of Allegiance, were eerie.
You read it here first: Albion Wilde is predicting that because the Ten Commandments forbid murder and bearing false witness, someone soon will call them "an establishment of religion" and will ask the Supreme Court to declare them alternate lifestyle choices.
From Yankee Doodle Dandy with James Cagney -- one of the all-time great actors, dancers and Irishmen. He was the first to use the "moonwalk" dance step, not Michael Jackson.
Thanks for that, AW!
