And it bites off your snout
That's a moray... :-)

I guess you could say that Dino had a violent side as well.
Ain't that a kick in the head?

I love Dino's songs, as well as Sinatra's, Bennett's, et al. I loathe most current music.
When it plays at my favorite pub, it sets my teeth on edge. What is the point of a song about "my hump, my hump, my lovely lady hump" anyway? Barf.

This one was always called "the
immortal STARDUST" by Hoagie Carmichael. Now you never hear it unless you know some golden oldies station. It's almost more beautiful as poetry than as music.
And now the purple dusk of twilight time
Steals across the meadows of my heart
High up in the sky the little stars climb
Always reminding me that we're apart
You wander down the lane and far away
Leaving me a song that will not die
Love is now the stardust
Of yesterday
The music
Of the years
Gone by
Chorus:
Sometimes I wonder why I spend
The lonely nights
Dreaming of a song.
The melody haunts my reverie
And I am once again with you.
When our love was new, and each kiss an inspiration.
But that was long ago, and now my consolation
Is in the stardust of a song.
Beside the garden wall, when stars are bright
You are in my arms
The nightingale tells his fairy tale
Of paradise where roses grew.
Though I dream in vain, in my heart you will remain
My stardust melody
The memory of love's refrain.

And as for Dean Martin, let me depart the world of pop music to remember him in what Esquire Magazine (I think it was) called one of the ten best movies ever made -- RIO BRAVO. But, yep, he did sing there too. So did co-star Ricky Nelson. Dino was incomparably better :-) Starring John Wayne. Walter Brennan almost stole it from all of them.

I am a huge Rat Pack fan for this exact reason (besides I like the way it sounds) - you can't dance with a guy in any meaningful way to todays music. Very sad. My favorite Dino is "Ain't that a kick in the head"- you can hear him smiling while he sings it. She's telling me we'll be wed / She's picked out a king sized bed/ I couldn't feel any better or or I'd be sick... I love it.

I spend some time around high school aged kids who are into music, and if they are exposed to these good songs, many of them enjoy singing them.
I wish all music teachers, choir directors, etc. around the country would stand up for quality, and be sure all their students at least HEAR these old standards. I don't think that's too much to ask.
