If one is to believe the reports on him being on that stretcher, he must have been reasonably far from the bomb blast and been hit by a few large chunks of collapsing wall masonry, and/or VERY few fragments from the bomb casing - he was neither torn to shreds nor made into a sieve, i.e. whatever hit his body was few in number Concussion effects may have caused massive internal bleeding and organ damage, while leaving the skin intact.

To get concussion only he would have to be pretty far away- the bomb did have a casing, and there was flying masonry. With massive internal bleeding and organ [brain] damage he'd be unconscious on that stretcher. The organ damage was there - he died from it, but the brain was still functional enough for him to react to the people placing him on that stretcher. He would have needed an unusually thick and well-padded skull to ascribe it to the concussion.
