If one is to believe the reports on him being on that stretcher, he must have been reasonably far from the bomb blast and been hit by a few large chunks of collapsing wall masonry, and/or VERY few fragments from the bomb casing - he was neither torn to shreds nor made into a sieve, i.e. whatever hit his body was few in number.
