Kaine blocks execution
Richmond Times-Dispatch ^ | Friday June 9, 2006 | Frank Green and Jamie C. Ruff

Less than two hours before he was to die by injection for three 1996 murders, Percy Levar Walton won a six-month reprieve from Gov. Timothy M. Kaine last night.

The governor delayed the execution until Dec. 8 so Walton's long-debated mental capacity and competence to be executed can be independently evaluated.

Surprise! Our left-wing governor lied when he claimed in the campaign that he wouldn't try to undermine the death penalty.

This opens-up a new career for people who have IQs in the 69-85 range: contract killer.

No he didn't, remember the last execution? Do you really think that delaying an execution of a man that thinks getting a lethal injection means he's going to Burger King, is undermining the death penalty?

I don't know if we get to count this yet, because he just delayed it, he didn't commute it (there actually is some question whether he has the right to delay a sentence, which was imposed by the courts, but that's another story).

Assuming we do count it, we have these Kaine Broken Promises:
1) I won't raise taxes for transportation until we lock the trust fund.
2) I will move to lock the trust fund.
3) I will veto any tax increase passed before the trust fund it locked
4) I will support the Marriage amendment
5) I will support giving local governments power to control development where transportation is inadequate.
6) I will carry out executions ordered by the courts.

Tim Kaine delays an execution but he's pro-choice.

Just like Governor Warner, he couldn't wait to raise taxes.

What a joke.

Too bad Jerry Kilgore rain such a lousy campaign.

The murders of Danville residents Elizabeth and Jessie Kendrick and Archie D. Moore Jr. were separate crimes but were discovered the same way. The Kendricks had been expected to meet their daughter at the Greensboro, N.C., airport but they didn't show up. Moore's sister also waited at the airport in vain. On Nov. 26, 1996, police entered the Kendricks' home and found their bodies after their daughter, Barbara Case, could not get them to answer the telephone or knocks on the door. Two days later, Thanksgiving Day, police found Moore's body in a closet in his apartment after his sister, Roxanne Moore, could not get him to answer the telephone. Percy Levar Walton pleaded guilty and was sentenced to death for each of the three murders. Reached by telephone last week, Case recalled that she had to plan funerals instead of celebrating Thanksgiving.

Cry me a frigging river.

I have no sympathy for the man, just attempting to balance out some info on the gov.

It sounds as though you assume all this stuff is really legit; I don't.

But even if the guy really is playing with half a deck, this case has already gone through the whole entire court system of appeals, the Supremes rejected his claim, and now he gets a last minute delay.

What exactly do you think six more months will accomplish that hasn't already been determined in the last nine years?

Who cares what he thinks? Do you think he asked the three people he murdered what their opinion of dying was?

His promise wasn't that he would carry out ONE execution. He promised he'd carry out executions that came to his desk.

But as I said, he didn't commute this sentence yet, he just delayed it.

He is a dhimmicrat, therefore he is a liar. How many times do we have to experience this before we learn?

Agree 100%. There is rarely any mention of the victims in these stories or the horrific way that they met their end and the horrible impact on their families.

In typical Democrat fashion, the governor apparently has never met a criminal who deserves to die, and probably lied about his "support" of the death penalty during the campaign.

However, Virginia is no Illinois, and if Kaine decides to commute all the sentences (like the corrupt former governor of Illinois) I guarantee he will be impeached faster than you can say Hillary Clinton.

It just disgusts me when democrats come up with these b.s. excuses. Who cares if the guy is insane? He did the crime, time to pay the penalty.

In this case, the family of the victim isn't that upset about the delay, and some think he would suffer more in prison the rest of his life instead of being dead.

I just wanted to point out that Kaine isn't doing a good job of keeping his promises.

The "I'll do what's right because it's the law!" refrain from the campaign keeps ringing in my ears.

It doesn't sound like that at all. It's not going to accomplish anything, other than appeasing some people. Kaine didn't listen to the people that wanted a stay for the other guy, this will give some people what they want, and I'm betting he will be executed.

It's all politics. It will look a lot better, if only the 2nd guy that comes up for execution in his term, and is such a mental case, at least gets a chance with the new gov. You know how many people in the north of VA, would go nuts, if he didn't at least postpone it a little bit?
