A chilling portrait, unsuitably framed
MSNBC ^ | 09 June 2006 | Phillip Kennicott

WASHINGTON - The frame surrounding an image of Abu Musab al-Zarqawi's head, revealed to the world as proof the terrorist is dead, is bizarre. When the picture was displayed at a U.S. military news briefing, Zarqawi's face was seen inside what appeared to be a professional photographic mat job, with a large frame, as if it were something one might preserve and hang on the wall next to other family portraits. One function of frames is to bound an image, and close down its open edges; frames delimit, both physically and by extension, metaphorically. But that was the last thing this frame was doing.

The left reaching, hoping, spinning desperately to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory. Articles like this - all over the MSM - are overtly pandering to the lunatic fringe, Moron.org. crowd.

I loved the gold frame. Very tasteful.

Ah, yes. The libnut is convinced that framing a photograph of a jihadist lunatic is beyond the pale.

The libnuts are really reaching.

A professionally framed death-portrait is far less babaric than, say, a bag of severed heads.

"Zarqawi is gone and good riddance. But there's nothing in the image of his face that deserves a frame. It's a small thing, to be sure. But it suggests a cynicism about this war that is profoundly distressing. Our political and military leaders simply can't resist packaging the war and wrapping it up in a bow."

And the media can't resist adding cynicism to everything that happens in this war.

Ooh, now we hear he was alive for a time and even tried to roll off the stretcher when he saw he was surrounded by US troops! But then he 'died' without disclosing any useful information. How long before Kerry or Kennedy denounce the troops and demand an investigation into why Zarqawi didn't get proper medical care? (Let's hope Iraqi's sawed off his head with a dull knife.)

This came straight off of Democratic Underground. It was one of their first threads on it.

This thread is worthless without pictures ;)

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Please note that the beheader is portrayed as beheaded. IMHO, the extensive showing of this picture is for the "benefit" of the remaining terrorist forces.

Well they wanted to hang his actual stuffed head on the wall of the Oval Office, but the taxidermist said there were too many holes in it (wouldn't hold the putty).

I work with SOCOM and saw the framed picture and knew instantly why is was framed and exactly where it will be hanged. Try SOCOM Headquarters, Tampa, FL. My guess is there are alot of framed pictures of Mr. Ragheadbeheader alreay hanging in a number of other commands. This might been seen as gruesome to our juorno educated pussies, but viewing a trophy has a long and honored pedigree. Jeez lousie, the press loves nothing better than a violent picture that indites the US (i.e., Saigon Police Chief Executing VC Terrorist), you would think of all the people they would fully understand the picture. LOL

Oh, whine whine whine.

The media knows full well that this is a war being fought in the realm of meaning and symbolism.

This anti-American peace-at-any-price hater just doesn't LIKE what this picture (and the tasteful frame) mean!

(The frame's not gold - it's a clear-finished wood with a natural pattern, either a lightly knotted bird's eye maple or (more probably) knotty pine. But the natural color of the wood is a nice warm gold. Good proportionality on the mat too.)
