Blah blah blah...
Funny, we can't even find engineers to hire. Everyone with any talent is already working 60 hours a week and getting big raises to stay with their firms.
PCR lives in a fantasy land.
The above article is an excerpt. The piece continues at the NewsMax site.
And get paid handsomely for it. Lots of those folks use their engineering expertise for roles in consulting or other areas not specifically aligned to "engineering" but where their knowledge gained is still put to effective use.
Really? You mean that 1/3rd isn't going to work as cashiers at McDonald's?
You won't believe this little gem. Is it any wonder why we are losing jobs?
Immigration enforcement is anti-union?
This is one of the things that happens when a nation tolerates the breaking of its laws;
A group of immigrant workers, some of whom are in the United States illegally, claim a Redford Township auto supplier fired them because they were trying to join the United Auto Workers. But the company says they were fired because they could not provide valid Social Security cards.
The UAW and the Interfaith Committee for Worker Justice, an immigrant rights group in Detroit, are helping the fired workers file a complaint against the supplier, Hope Global Industries, with the National Labor Relations Board.

I work for a large engineering company, we've booked a record amount of work this year, and, even though I'm only an intern, they've got me working 11 hour days and Saturdays too. The pay is really good as it is, then you factor in the time-and-a-half, and I'll be sitting pretty when I go to finish up my last semester in the fall. They've already extended a full-time offer, which appears to be very good.
I know mine is just one field among many, but "Hoover economy" my @$$.
Speaking of which, I need to get back to work. Darn FreeRepublic!!! =P
Weird. My company is giving hefty signing bonuses to engineers graduating this year.
But NewsMax said it the job market sucks, so it HAS to be true.
Its a loss of UNION jobs......look at Delphi....$80,000 a year to screw in bolts.....sorry....to much...I would take it elseware also
Gosh, I wish they would. I bet I could at least understand what they were saying to me!
susie
Just as there's a collection of people that just can't get past, psychologically, anything other than a precious metal being "real"there's a collection of people that can't get past, psychologically, the idea that any job where you aren't physically making something isn't a "real" job.
One of my high school friends has an engineering degree, and is making good money as a salesman for an industrial air conditioning company. In PCR's delusional fantasy world he's cleaning carpets or delivering pizzas.

Here is a thread (posted on the 7th) on the same article.
My Son is a mechanical engineer grad from Ga Tech and says the demand for engineers is still strong.
When the Democrats retake the House and Senate, they will fix this by socking it to businesses that out-source. Look for heavy taxes to be levied on income derived from outsourced products or services. Democrats know where the money is and they will get it to buy votes from the unemployed. That's why the Republicans will lose power. There aren't enough millionaires to win elections. The Democrats have the minorities and the poor. The Republicans were fortunate to have the Christian right and other conservatives co-opt their party since Ronald Reagan, but with country-club Republicans and "compassionate conservatives" running the show the last five years, social conservatives and fiscal conservatives aren't as interested in the Republican Party as they once were. Without them, Republicans will wander in the wilderness as the clueless minority they were before 1980, if they survive at all.
Another Chicken Little echo! Drool
All depends on skill levels....

Are you saying that grads right out school have the "engineering expertise" to go into consulting? I don't buy it for a minute.
They still don't get it. Loss of Manufacturing jobs and many other jobs is not only due to Labor, or Education for that matter.
EPA,EEOC, OSHA,TAXES, OUT OF CONTROL LAWYERS, FRDERAL REGULATIONS, LOCAL REGULATIONS, ON AND ON.
The government is not Business friendly.
