BAGHDAD, Iraq (June 8, 2006) – Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki finalized his cabinet today with the Iraqi parliament’s vote on the three remaining security ministry positions.
Abdul Qadir Muhammed Jasim, a Sunni Arab, was confirmed as the new Minister of Defense.
Jawad al-Bolani, a Shiite, was confirmed for the Minister of Interior.
The final position of state minister of national security was put in the hands of Sherwan al-Waily, also a Shiite.
The top positions of defense and interior were filled by former generals, both under the former regime. Neither Jasim nor al-Bolani are said to not have any strong political ties to their respected ethnic parties, which meets one of Prime Minister Maliki’s top criteria for the positions.
The nominations and confirming was a positive sign of progress for the new prime minister and the Iraqi parliament member who were sworn in May 20.
The nomination of all three positions came this morning during a press conference which also announced the death of Abu Musab al-Zarqawi.
The filling of the positions is considered key to curbing violence in Iraq. However, experts say the new ministers will face an uphill battle in stopping violence and restoring order in Iraq.

In my opinion. News that is being neglected a bit due to the coverage on zman being killed. May Satan promise the pig, that he will sit on a bed of hot coals for eternity. Now that the IG has a approved DM and IM, which both appear to have meet little resistance in the final vote, things should really be able to start cooking regarding taking out the large militias no one here has to be reminded of in name, and addressing how best to use Iraqi army and police units on fully independent operational level, where it makes good sense to do so. Of course I fully understand the need for our forces to work closely together and continue to supply them A/G as we saw so effectively used on the zman, his cultic advisor and key aids.

It is about G-D time!!!

We will all be alot better when they have come to the realization that a Shiite will sell out just as fast as a Sunni or Kurd when the big money shows up.

I believe you hit it on the nail. Money talks. And as more Iraqi overcome deep rooted fear (I can't blame them the least for that very unpleasant circumstance), the more goons are going to be popping up daisies or waiting to hear the call for surfs up.

Its sad to say that we have come to this point, but when you look at the US Congress, these guys come in as poor as church mice, make $137,000 for 10 or 12 years and leave rich.

How does that make sense?

All we ask (as they are taking their bribes)is keep the greater good in mind....

Investments. Inside trader options, side deals that may be quite legit in some cases. And sadly some that are not legit as in the case of a once proud geniune naval aviator.
I would expect the same thing with the Iraqi as every other government. Where power resides, money flows. Tis been that way since our earliest written historical records. It won't change. In the modern world some call it greed. I call it dishonor.
