>>>The first thing my Marine said to me while we were watching footage of the rubble was "I hope they find hard drives, there's gold in that mess".

Would it be better if no hard drives existed -- and it was all in Zarqawi's (misplaced) head?

A large portion of the network just may not know how to communicate without its head.

A large portion of the network will go unfunded and unpaid.

Oh please, the alignment of Democrats and Islamo-facsists is a matter of convenience, not conspiracy.

Why would I think it was no better if none existed? His point was that there was information in the rubble.

Osama's forwarding address?

No, but they found the address and phone numbers of Osama's Propaganda Minister.

I doubt that matters.

For some sufficiently classified data, the preferred means of destroying a disk drive platter containing that data are incinerating or melting the disk. Shredding the platter to pieces no bigger than a quarter inch is adequate for less sensitive data. Grinding the surface off the platter could work, but is more labor intensive.

Unless the drive was so close to the center of the explosion that we can't find the fragments, I suspect our nameless friends at the National Security Agency can make good use of it.
