Definitely. That's why after the '04 election, many Lib pundits were screaming blame at Margaret what's-her-name, the chief justice of the Massachusetts Supr. Ct, for making the decision mandating gay marriage, that led to "protection of marriage amendments" being put on the ballots in many states in '04, that drew larger numbers of conservatives to the polls and sank the Kerry campaign. Some conservative pundit (Coulter?) satirized this "blame Margaret" fullisade with something like, "Yeah, Margaret. That'll teach you to turn up the heat so fast that the frog jumps out of the pan."

Sometimes exposure does work. But many times things are not clearly exposed, or even understood by the public.
