I picked cucumbers as a child, by the bushel, to earn money in Mississippi. I didn't think of it as degrading or below me. There is no such thing as a bad job........

I worked many long hot hours in the potato/onion sheds here, that is until the illegals started taking them over and I refused to work with them.

I don't know about that. I watched a show on TLC or Discovery, I think it was "The Worlds Dirties Jobs" of something like that. He has come up with some pretty bad jobs. Maybe what you meant was that there is no such thing as a dishonorable job.

I too picked apples as a teenager. I still do every fall. It makes very good money if you want to work and it gets me out of the house. I spend 3 months out of the year in the sun and fresh air. It is hard work but there is a great feeling at the end of the day that you actually DID something. Funny, the farm that I work at does not hire illegals and his apples are all picked. His crop is picked every year by the same people. His pickers come back, year after year they are all American citizens. No illegals necessary! He takes good care of us and we do the same.
