In any debate, if you can argue the latter, the former is just a bonus. If you cannot argue the latter, the former is not likely to stand to scrutiny either.

I don't like debating with someone who has to tailor their argument to a POV or make the other party part of the argument. Logic is on your side or it isn't. Argue in the alternative if you like, as long as they don't contradict each other. It will immediately become clear if the disagreement is a matter of logic or assumptions. If you disagree with something I said, then disagree with it. Don't keep asking me to give you something else to disagree with.
