NC Democratic Party Chair Repudiates Rachel Lea Hunter's Racist Comments

Some of you may recognize the name Rachel Lea Hunter. In 2004, she presented herself as a "conservative Republican". When she lost her first campaign for the North Carolina Supreme Court, she began attacking President George Bush calling him a Nazi.

In 2005, Rachel Lea Hunter supported Vernon Robinson for North Carolina GOP Chair. When Robinson lost his bid for Chair, Rachel Lea Hunter left the Republican Party and, in an overnight transformation, became a "progressive Democrat".

Yesterday, Rachel Lea Hunter launched a racist, hate-filled attack against Vernon Robinson. Vernon Robinson is a Republican African-American candidate for US Congress in North Carolina District 13.

Rachel Lea Hunter's campaign platform and racially charged attack against Robinson prompted the North Carolina Democratic Party to release the following statement:

In response, North Carolina Democratic Party Chair Jerry Meek made this statement: “...today Rachel Lea Hunter crossed the line. Her characterization of Robinson as a ‘slave’ was reprehensible and I call on her to apologize. This racial epithet has no place in any political dialogue..."

“Consequently, I am announcing today that I will recommend that the State Democratic Party leadership withhold any endorsement in the Supreme Court seat that Rachel Lea Hunter is seeking. Today’s incident was one of many that have shown that Rachel Lea Hunter lacks the judgment and temperament necessary for a Supreme Court Justice.

This level of lunacy and controversy seems to follow Rachel Lea Hunter wherever she goes. Just a couple of weeks ago, she claimed that former University of North Carolina basketball coach, Dean Smith, had endorsed her campaign. He had not.

Rachel Lea Hunter is an embarassment to the State of North Carolina. She does not deserve anyone's vote. The Charlotte Observer and many media outlets have documented this fact. Please spread the word.

Rachel Lea Hunter is not the same person as the supermodel, Rachel Hunter.

Rachel Lea Hunter is a chameleon. First she was a conservative Republican, then she was a Libertarian, then she became a "progressive Democrat". Please understand that her transformation occured over the course of less than one year. She will say whatever she must in order to get elected.

Her husband and campaign manager is Connie Mack Berry, Jr. It has been rumored that because of Rachel Lea Hunter's ailments, he is single handedly running her campaign on her behalf.

Judging from the recent, numerous, wacky campaign statements and press releases, there seems to be some truth behind the rumor.
