June 7, 2006 -- WASHINGTON - Conservative rabble-rouser Ann Coulter created an uproar among 9/11 victims' families yesterday after she charged in her new book that a group of "self-obsessed" politically active widows are enjoying their husbands' deaths.
The razor-tongued blond polemicist made unflattering remarks about the high-profile widows who liked to call themselves the "Jersey girls." In Coulter's latest book, "Godless," she calls them "harpies" and the "Witches of East Brunswick."

BS. It's way past time conservatives start showing some emotion. I look at Coulter as "knee-jerk" conservatism. We already got the facts on our side. But if we keep fighting like the bland RNC press releases printed after every Rat speech, then we won't go anywhere.
Coulter would do better to be her vitriolic self, but stick with facts that can be proven. It is not acceptable to tell any widow that they are enjoying their husbands death-- the only person who can make such a pronouncement is the widow herself.
The rest of her entertainment, and over-the-top rhetoric, and her opinions are fine by me. I like the enthusiasm, even if I don't think it converts anyone. But she does enthuse the base and that is a useful function, and she takes down the opposition several notches which is also a useful function.
But she hurt her message here IMHO.
You and I might well agree on many things but the joyous attention-whoring Witches of East Brunswick and the effectiveness of Annie are NOT two of them.
No, she's not. She makes conservatives look vicious and angry. She may play well with the Levin-Savage crowd, but she can't get a job with a mainstream conservative website or publication because of her bombast.
Her criticisms of Harriett Miers as a "cleaning lady," and "dumb" were embarrassing, as was her call for impeaching Bush for nominating her.
Now, she calls liberals "Godless" using every epithet she can think of short of obscenities.
The irony of her methodology must have escaped her.
People tend to follow positive people with good ideas.
Don't mistake grace and tact with weakness, or lack of emotion. If you do, you'd have missed Ronald Reagan.
C'mon Sink. Ann's a humorist in addition to being a conservative activist. She's just a fiery version of Dave Barry, that's all.
What she says has little or no influence on the Republican Party, so there's no need to get all worked up how her comments affect the GOP.
Fair enough, we'll agree to disagree on this... :-)
Coulter is the exact person needed to expose these liberal liar dim rats for what they are. You may wish to believe the crap you hear on the television, but you do it at your own peril, along with all of the other squishy so called "moderates" out their who could end this nation in mediocrity were it not for a few courage souls like that of Ann's.
So you consider yourself a conservative?
If you think she should, it is easy to see why you attack her in defense of the leftist drama queens/Witches of East Brunswick. It is not all about the Witches. It is not all about you.
Got along without you before I met you, gonna.....
You like her, I don't. Fine. Such is opinion :~D
They're already portrayed that way by the Left anyway.
One of the things I like about Ann is that she never befriends liberals because they're going to stab you in the back anyway. That's why I always shake my head in disgust at Republicans who become "moderate" and grovel for the liberal media attention.
Is there a political office somewhere Coulter is running for?
I can't imagine Ann converting anyone. Her fans point out that she pisses liberals off. She preaches to the choir. I do not see the value in that.
I just got through listening to Al Rantel. He is one of Ann's biggest fans and has her on his program about once a week. Even he thought Ann was way over the line this time with her remarks about the Jersey Girls.
Medved is coming up in a few minutes. He too is a huge Ann fan. It will be interesting to hear what he says. I would be surprised if he defends this remark, though.
I said it before, I'll say it again... If a political commentator's job is not to sell their ideas to people, exactly what is their job?
Yes.
The Jersey Girls love playing the victim, and Ann gave them star billing (again).
So much projection, so little time.
I suggest it is you who are too wrapped up in this if you feel the need to nitpick a book you haven't read. Yet you and others feel some need to come to this forum and declare "Ann bad; me good." If you're offended by her words don't buy her book. Spare the rest of us this didactic urge you have to dismiss the work of this best-selling author.
Appealing to the sensitivities of the masses is a wholly unconvincing argument as are your insults of those who don't agree with your parochial view. I think the majority of us are able to make our own decisions about whether her rhetoric "blunts" her message.
