California voters soundly rejected Proposition 82 Tuesday, crushing the hopes of early childhood education advocates who hoped to make universal preschool public policy in the nation's most populous state.
Throughout much of the evening, returns showed that 60 percent of voters statewide opposed Prop. 82 while just 40 percent supported it, making it nearly impossible for the measure to ever get the simple majority it needed to pass.

...Prop. 82 would have taxed the state's wealthiest residents to provide a free year of preschool to every 4-year-old. The tax-the-rich initiative, which had the support of Hollywood activists and labor unions, seemed a sure winner when it was first unveiled earlier this spring...No soup for you!

"
My faith in California is restored!"
As a refugee from New Jersey, I fully understand that thinking.
As long as you don't start to believe N.J. will secede from the communist, socialist, Left Coast, you are still sane.

"Prop. 82 sounded really good, but the more I looked at it, the more I realized it was subject to shenanigans."Clear observation, David, but, if it's coming from the Left, you already know it's subject to shenanigans.

Good news out of California! Actually, California has often shown surprising sense, when it comes to referendum votes.

We'll always have Princess Bride, When Harry Met Sally and Spinal Tap as Reiner's legacies-- no need for this pre-school boondoggle.

I don't think we want the Hollywierds anywhere near pre-schoolers.

I really love "Tap" and 'Stand by Me' was a true gem....he should stick to making movies....he has an apptitude for making them....and little or no apptitude for politics....
